Thanks to their simple synthesis, controlled physical properties, and minimal toxicity, iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NPs) are widely used in many biomedical applications (e.g., bioimaging, drug delivery, biosensors, diagnostics, and theranostics). However, the use of NPs does not preclude the possibility of selective toxicity and undesirable effects, including accumulation in tissues and direct interaction with specific biological targets. This study evaluated the biocompatibility of Fe3O4 NPs, Teucrium polium (T. polium) extract, rutin, and the corresponding complexes on the liver tissue of healthy white Wistar rats. The impact profile of the synthesized Fe3O4 NPs (15 ± 4 nm), rutin, T. polium extract, and their complexes on biochemical markers of liver function (ALT, AST, ALP, GGT, HDL, LDL, total cholesterol, total protein, and albumin) and morphological indicators of rat liver was investigated. Fe3O4 NPs, rutin, and T. polium extract do not show direct hepatotoxicity when administered intraperitoneally to rats, unlike their complexes. All agents exert a hypolipidemic effect by lowering LDL, despite maintaining the synthetic functions of the liver. Fe3O4 NPs increase the activity of GPO, which is associated with their peroxidase-like properties. A multifaceted and diverse mechanism of action of all studied samples on the liver of Wistar rats was identified.

Introduction: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disease in older people, characterized by the accumulation of beta-amyloid (Aβ) plaques and neurofibrillary tangles composed of aggregated of hyperphosphorylated tau protein, which normally helps stabilize microtubules in neurons. Method: Nowadays, artemisinin (ART) as well as its semisynthetic derivatives (ARTs) are seen as potential neuroprotectors. The goal of the present study is the assessment of neuroprotective, antibacterial activity of ART, as well as in silico studies of ART affinity to Aβ-peptides and the search of potential targets for ART. The study is referring to explores the impact of ART on an animal model of AD that is induced by the aggregated amyloidogenic peptide Aβ1-42 by electrophysiology and morphology analysis. Specifically, the focus is on the activation of the entorhinal cortex (ENT) as synaptic potentiation. Result: Electrophysiological and histochemical have demonstrated that therapeutic injection of ART or its derivatives acts as a neuroprotective This treatment appears to prevent or slow down damage to brain tissue, and it promotes the restoration of neurons and their surrounding environment. The protective effects of ART may involve various mechanisms, including antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory effects, and the inhibition of apoptosis. Conclusion: in silico studies revealed a direct, strong interaction of ART with the amyloidogenic peptides 5Aβ17-42, 12Aβ9-40, and 18Aβ9-40. in silico screening revealed several protein targets for ART, including cytochrome P-450 2B6 (CYP2B6). The highest binding affinity was found on the active site of CYP2B6. ART has great potential for discovering new drugs using combined therapies.

Breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP, ABCG2) is one of the ATP binding cassette (ABC) transporter proteins which involved in multi-drug resistance of cancer therapy. BCRP is expressed in various types of human cancer and inhibiting can be a solution to overcome multidrug resistance. Significant effort has been devoted to develop treatment strategies to overcome BCRP-mediated resistance. In addition, BCRP is expressed also in many normal tissues and plays an important role in drug absorption, distribution, and elimination. In order to design an effective cancer treatment strategy, a lot of flavones and their derivatives are used as anticancer drug compounds. One of the most promising flavonols is quercetin and quercetin semisynthetic derivatives which can inhibit the expression of BCRP. Highlights Virtual screening using multiple docking program for consensus predictions. Virtual screening of the quercetin derivatives as potential inhibitors of BCRP. Selected derivatives bind to the main amino acids of proteins. Selected derivatives meet the criteria necessary for their consideration as drugs.
