Luísa S. Serafim works at CICECO–Aveiro Institute of Materials, Chemistry Department, University of Aveiro (Aveiro, Portugal), as an assistant professor. She received her Ph.D. in 2004 from the Department of Chemistry, Science and Technology of the New University of Lisbon, working on the production of biopolymers using mixed microbial cultures (under supervisor Maria Reis). She has been in the Chemistry Department, Aveiro University, since October 2008 and has taught subjects related to the biochemical engineering and biotechnology fields. She is the guest editor of MDPI's journals Fermentation, Polymers, and Energies and a section board member of MDPI's journal Fermentation. Her research interests mainly focus on polyhydroxyalkanoates, mixed cultures, bioethanol, bacterial cellulose, and biorefineries. Her scientific output includes 57 publications, corresponding to 3405 citations (h-index 28) (Scopus, 5 December 2023).
