Short Biography

Johanna Spiers (Research Fellow at the University of Surrey) achieved a BSc and PhD in psychology from Birkbeck, University of London. She uses a range of qualitative methods to explore the experience of living with differing physical and mental health challenges and has worked as a researcher at universities including UCL, Hull, Bristol, Manchester, Plymouth and Birmingham. She is an expert in interpretative phenomenological analysis and thematic analysis. Her PhD was on the experience of living with and being treated for end-stage renal failure. In recent years, she has worked closely with Ruth Riley to investigate the interaction of working conditions and mental health challenges facing healthcare professionals in various circumstances.
