The objective of this research was to determine the degree of food competition between guanaco and livestock in Calipuy National Reserve. Vegetation cover (CV) was determined by a survey of vegetation and composition of diets using a micro histological technique of feces (50 guanacos, 35 cows and 25 horses). The dietary overlap was determined by Horn Index (I), food preferences by Ivlev index (E) and the diet diversity by Shannon-Weaver index (D) .We found a low - moderate food competition between the guanaco and the cattle and horses. The dietary overlap was greater during the rainy season (I=0.80 and 0.88) where forage supply was high (CV=63%) and lower during the dry season (R=0.58 and 0.64) when there were shortages of food (CV=50%). The guanaco was an intermediate selective consumer. The dietary diversity of adults increased during the dry season (D=0.62, p<0.01) including up to 70% of herbs and shrubs, showing a high flexibility in food between seasons (I=0.64) and habitats (I=0.75, p60%) and did not show the same flexibility (I=0.90, p<0.01). Chulengos and juveniles were more sensitive to seasonal variations, its consuming a lower percentage of shrubs, but had a strong preference for small herbs.

Fiber from alpacas represents a substantial component of economic output for South American countries. In this study it determined the textile characteristics of fibers obtained from Huacaya alpacas raised at the South American Camelids Research and Development Center-Lachocc (CRDC-Lachocc) located at The National University of Huancavelica (UNH). Fleece samples were obtained from the mid-side rib area of 74 white alpacas (42 females and 32 males) of varying ages. The Average Fiber Diameter (AFD), Standard Deviation of the Average Fiber Diameter (SDAFD), Fiber Diameter Coefficient of Variation (FDCV), Comfort Factor (CF) and Staple Length (SL) were measured as textile characteristics and related to sex and age group. Most of the fleece samples could be classified as baby alpaca fleece according to the Peruvian Technical Standard classification (231.301.2014). Sex had no influence on any textile characteristic (p > 0.05). Meanwhile, age affected only AFD and CF (p < 0.05). Together the results indicated that alpacas farmed at CRDC-Lachocc had good potential to produce high quality fibers.

The present study evaluated the effect of supplementation with oregano essential oil (OEO) on the productive parameters, oxidative stability, and lipid parameters of turkey meat. Eighty 1-d-old male turkeys were randomly distributed into four treatments groups and fed the following diets for 105 d: control diet without any supplementation or supplementation with 300 mg/kg lincomycin and spectinomycin, 100 mg/kg OEO, or 200 mg/kg OEO. Supplementation with 200 mg/kg OEO obtained the best body weight, average daily gain, feed conversion, and the lowest feed intake with respect to the other diets (p < 0.001), while 100 mg/kg OEO had the best oxidative stability (p < 0.001). Though OEO had no hypocholesterolemic effect, 200 mg/kg OEO produced the lowest concentration of triglycerides in the blood (p < 0.05). In conclusion, OEO supplementation improves productive parameters and increases oxidative stability in turkeys. Therefore, OEO has the potential to act as a growth promoter replacing antibiotics.
