In practice, the time-varying communication delays and actuator failures are the main inevitable issues in nonlinear multilateral teleoperation systems, which can reduce the performance and stability of the considered systems. This article proposed a novel failure-distribution-dependent H∞ fuzzy fault-tolerant control scheme to realize position synchronization and force tracking simultaneously for multilateral teleoperation systems. Firstly, the nonlinear multilateral systems were modeled as a kind of T-S fuzzy systems with multiple time-varying delays. Then, based on the distribution characteristic of failures, by introducing a series of tradeoff coefficients, a novel failure-distribution-dependent fault-tolerant control algorithm was provided to ensure force tracking in spite of failures, and the purpose of position synchronization was achieved (not only the master and slave robot position synchronization but also the position synchronization between each slave robot). Finally, a numerical simulation example was given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, a novel neural network-based error-track iterative learning control scheme is proposed to tackle trajectory tracking problem for tank gun control systems. Firstly, the system modeling for tank gun control systems is introduced as a preparation of controller design. Then, the reference error trajectory is constructed to deal with the nonzero initial error of iterative learning control. The adaptive iterative learning controller for tank gun control systems is designed by using Lyapunov approach. Adaptive learning neural network is adopted to approximate nonlinear uncertainties, with robust control technique being used compensate the approximation error and external disturbances. As the iteration number increases, the system error can follow the desired error trajectory over the whole time interval, which makes the system state accurately track the reference error trajectory during the predetermined part time interval. Numerical simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed iterative learning control scheme.

In order to improve the efficiency of human–robot interaction (HRI), it is necessary to carry out research on precise control of the manipulator. In this paper, an adaptive non-singular fast terminal sliding mode control scheme is proposed for robot manipulators to solve the trajectory tracking problem with model uncertainty and external disturbances. At first, a novel non-singular fast terminal sliding mode surface is proposed, and by introducing an auxiliary function, the singularity problem caused by the inverse of the error-related matrix could be avoided in the controller design process. Then, the controller is developed by using Lyapunov synthesis. A robust adaptive strategy is used to deal with lumped uncertainty, with an adaptive update law designed to compensate for the upper bound of lumped uncertainty whose upper bound is prior unknown. Finally, a two-link robot manipulators as a simulation example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. Compared with other similar algorithms, the proposed adaptive non-singular fast terminal sliding mode control scheme has higher efficiency and smaller computational complexity for the reason that no piecewise continuous function is needed to be constructed during the controller design.

A prescribed performance neuro-adaptive control scheme is proposed for a single-link flexible-joint robotic manipulator with unknown deadzone and actuator faults. A new smooth deadzone inverse model is constructed to offset the adverse effect caused by the input deadzone in the actuator of flexible-joint manipulators. The control law is developed by coordinating prescribed performance control with a backstepping technique to ensure transient/steady-state performance, while adaptive neural networks are employed for uncertainty approximation. The tracking error is always restricted within the prescribed bound during the control process, and it ultimately converges to the small neighborhood of origin. All signals in the closed-loop flexible-joint robotic manipulator system are proved to be uniformly bounded. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the efficiency of the prescribed performance adaptive neural network backstepping control scheme.

In practical operation, the system parameters of a permanent magnet linear motor are affected by unknown factors, including nonlinear friction, sudden load changes, thrust fluctuations, and so on. Therefore, a controller designed for fixed parameters often cannot produce satisfactory results. To solve this problem, a novel design method for permanent magnet linear motor systems based on backstepping is proposed in this article. The proposed control scheme does not require the values or range of changes of the system parameters in advance but constructs an update law to perform online parameter estimation. A difficulty encountered in controller design and stability analysis is the estimation of the unknown coefficient of a single-variable state, which can be considered as a virtual input. In this article, the estimated virtual control coefficient is introduced into the coordinate transformation to construct a novel coordinate transformation. However, introducing the estimated coefficient into the virtual control makes the derivative of the Lyapunov function used in the stability analysis more complex. This novel nonlinear dynamic term can be precisely cancelled by changing the update law of the coefficient. Finally, simulations are performed to assess the performance of the proposed control scheme against that of a traditional proportional–integral–derivative controller, and the simulation results show that the proposed control law can effectively improve the system performance.

The PET and CT fusion image, combining the anatomical and functional information, has important clinical meaning. An effective registration of PET and CT images is the basis of image fusion. This paper presents a multithread registration method based on contour point cloud for 3D whole-body PET and CT images. Firstly, a geometric feature-based segmentation (GFS) method and a dynamic threshold denoising (DTD) method are creatively proposed to preprocess CT and PET images, respectively. Next, a new automated trunk slices extraction method is presented for extracting feature point clouds. Finally, the multithread Iterative Closet Point is adopted to drive an affine transform. We compare our method with a multiresolution registration method based on Mattes Mutual Information on 13 pairs (246~286 slices per pair) of 3D whole-body PET and CT data. Experimental results demonstrate the registration effectiveness of our method with lower negative normalization correlation (NC = −0.933) on feature images and less Euclidean distance error (ED = 2.826) on landmark points, outperforming the source data (NC = −0.496, ED = 25.847) and the compared method (NC = −0.614, ED = 16.085). Moreover, our method is about ten times faster than the compared one.
