José Villalaín obtained his B.Sc. in Biochemistry (1980, Prof. Félix M. Goñi, Bilbao) and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry working on high-resolution NMR of cytochromes (1983, Prof. Antonio V. Xavier, Lisbon, London). In 1983, he went to the University of Murcia, where he joined the research group of Prof. Juan C. Gómez-Fernández as a lecturer. In 1997, he moved to the newly created Universitas Miguel Hernández (Alicante), where he continues to work (Institute IDIBE) as a Professor in Biophysics and Biochemistry. He has been vice-dean of the Faculty of Experimental Sciences (6y), coordinator of the degree in Biochemistry (8y), and director of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (12y). His research interests are lipid–protein interaction, membrane biophysics, membrane fusion, molecular and cell biophysics, and molecular dynamics.
