The fact that traditional radio is synchronous and unidirectional, with little or no room for interaction and content selection, is one of the main reasons why young people have turned their backs on it. In retrospect, conventional radio never cared for the younger generation, never designing strategies to bring them in. As a result, radio lost its relevance and it does not feature as part of young people’s digital diet. Over the last year, the number of podcast consumers has steadily increased, which is causing this format to become more and more cemented in society. It could be a way to gain younger listeners, an opportunity not to be missed by the radio industry. In the past, young people continued to listen to the radio as they got older, but that is no longer the case nor is radio seen as the go-to resource for new musical content. The challenge for radio is clear: regaining its influence through proposals with added value to differentiate itself from global platforms. In order to carry out this research, a total of 410 young university students were surveyed. The results show what the current picture is in such a changing atmosphere. It has been observed that this audience bases their audio consumption on personal preferences, they mainly access it via social media and they would find it useful and interesting to create their own podcast. This paper includes a podcast where academic experts and audio professionals, interviewed for the doctoral thesis “xxx (anonymity for review)”, reflect on the strategies that radio should adopt in order to gain young listeners.

The objective of this article is to examine the utilization of social media accounts in languages other than Spanish by Spanish football clubs, within the framework of a broader inquiry into the social media visibility of sports entities. The research employs a strictly quantitative methodology, centered on the content analysis of the social media accounts belonging to the 20 clubs participating in the 2023/24 season of LaLiga EA Sports. The findings reveal that virtually all clubs manage accounts in languages other than Spanish. Among these football clubs, X emerges as the predominant social network for managing multiple accounts in different languages. Notably, following Spanish, English stands out as the most prevalent language, although other languages such as French, Arabic, Japanese, and Chinese are increasingly gaining prominence.

This study devolves into the use of Chinese social media platforms by clubs participating in the 2022-2023 season of the Spanish First Division Football League. Four research objectives guide this study. First, to identify the specific purpose driving the use of these social networks by the Spanish First Division clubs. Second, to quantify the presence of these clubs on the Sina Weibo platform. Third, to verify the official status of the clubs’ accounts across each social network. Finally, to rank the clubs based on their degree of engagement and effectiveness in utilizing the selected social networks. The findings reveal that all clubs in the Spanish First Division use at least one Chinese social network, predominantly Sina Weibo; that a select few engage with Bilibili and TikTok (Chinese version); and that not all accounts on these social networks carry an official designation. Significantly, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona emerge as the frontrunners with the highest follower count across all social networks analyzed. In conclusion, the study underscores the limited extent of social media management by clubs in the 2022-2023 season of the Spanish First Division in the Chinese market.
