Prof. Dr. Yan Jian currently works as a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the College of Natural Resources and Environment, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou, China. In July 2007, he received his Ph.D. in Botany (Natural Medicinal Chemistry) from the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences. From June 2011 to June 2012, he was a visiting scholar at the Thompson Institute of Botany, Cornell University, USA. From July 2012 to June 2015, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Thompson Institute of Botany, Cornell University, USA. His main research areas are as follows:
1. Discover the inducible resistance of small molecules and key synthetic genes in plants;
2. Reveal the chemical basis of interactions between ecosystems (chemical communication);
3. Study the invasion mechanism of chemical substances in invasive plants;
4. Explore the small molecules in insect saliva that induce resistance to crops and pest defence mechanisms;
5. Expand the application of chemical ecology results in biological pesticides, variety improvement, food safety, etc.
