For fifth-generation wireless communication systems, network slicing has emerged as a key concept to meet the diverse requirements of various use cases. By slicing an infrastructure network into multiple dedicated logical networks, wireless networks can support a wide range of services. However, how to fast deploy the end-to-end slices is the main issue in a multi-domain wireless network infrastructure. In this paper, a mathematical model is used to construct network slice requests and map them to the infrastructure network. The mapping process consists of two steps: the placement of virtual network functions and the selection of link paths chaining them. To efficiently utilize the limited physical resources, we pay attention to the service-oriented deployment by offering different deployment policies for three typical slices: eMBB slices, mMTC slices, and uRLLC slices. Furthermore, we adopt complex network theory to obtain the topological information of slices and infrastructure network. With the topological information, we define a node importance metric to rank the nodes in node mapping. To evaluate the performance of deployment policy we proposed, extensive simulations have been conducted. The results have shown that our algorithm performed better in terms of resource efficiency and acceptance ratio. In addition, the average execute time of our algorithm is in a linear growth with the increase of infrastructure network size.

Network function virtualization (NFV) has already been a new paradigm for network architectures. By migrating NFs from dedicated hardware to virtualization platform, NFV can effectively improve the flexibility to deploy and manage service function chains (SFCs). However, resource allocation for requested SFC in NFV-based infrastructures is not trivial as it mainly consists of three phases: virtual network functions (VNFs) chain composition, VNFs forwarding graph embedding, and VNFs scheduling. The decision of these three phases can be mutually dependent, which also makes it a tough task. Therefore, a coordinated approach is studied in this paper to jointly optimize NFV resource allocation in these three phases. We apply a general cost model to consider both network costs and service performance. The coordinate NFV-RA is formulated as a mixed-integer linear programming, and a heuristic-based algorithm (JoraNFV) is proposed to get the near optimal solution. To make the coordinated NFV-RA more tractable, JoraNFV is divided into two sub-algorithms, one-hop optimal traffic scheduling and a multi-path greedy algorithm for VNF chain composition and VNF forwarding graph embedding. Last, extensive simulations are performed to evaluate the performance of JoraNFV, and results have shown that JoraNFV can get a solution within 1.25 times of the optimal solution with reasonable execution time, which indicates that JoraNFV can be used for online NFV planning.

Edge-assisted vehicular crowdsensing (EAVC) system is an emerging data collection paradigm in Internet of Vehicles (IoV), where intelligent vehicles collaboratively perform complex sensing tasks under the guidance of the edge server. One of the main characteristics of EAVC is that large and balanced spatiotemporal coverage is of paramount importance to support various crowdsensing applications. Most existing works have focused on recruiting pervasive nondedicated vehicles to conduct data collection. However, the collected data of nondedicated vehicles cannot satisfy the requirement of spatiotemporal coverage in terms of evenness and coverage rate, as the trajectories are not uniformly distributed in spatial and temporal domain. In this article, we propose a collaborative data collection architecture based on edge intelligence, where nondedicated and dedicated vehicles cooperate to carry out large-scale and fine-grained data collection with the assistance of the edge server. Particularly, we propose an objective function to better evaluate the spatiotemporal evenness of collected data in consideration of different spatiotemporal partitions based on entropy theory. With the objective function, the offline and online scheduling algorithms are designed to guide dedicated vehicles to proactively participate in crowdsensing tasks, using dynamic programming and greedy theories. Through extensive simulations, we have shown the necessity of introducing dedicated vehicles to assist data collection in vehicular crowdsensing system and the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed schemes.

This paper investigates the slice-based service function chain embedding (SBSFCE) problem, which is to embed the service function chains (SFCs) of flows from different slices on a physical network for end-to-end network slice deployment. Compared with regarding slice deployment as complete virtual network embedding (VNE), deploying slices from the perspective of SBSFCE is beneficial for achieving more delicate resource allocation and jointly optimizing virtual network function (VNF) mapping and link mapping without the need for particular virtual topology designs. However, performing effective SBSFCE also faces several key challenges like diversified and differentiated requirements of flows, inter-slice and intra-slice VNF sharing, priority-aware admission control, and VNF placement restrictions, and few existing SBSFCE works have comprehensively considered or solved these challenges. In view of this, we address the SBSFCE problem by jointly considering the above key challenges in this paper. Specifically, we formulate the SBSFCE problem as an integer linear programming (ILP) that aims to maximize flow acceptance ratios and minimize network resource costs. Then, we propose two novel heuristic algorithms, weight-oriented embedding (WOE) and weight-oriented ratio embedding (WORE), to solve the problem. Simulation results demonstrate that our algorithms outperform benchmark algorithms and achieve near-optimal performance.

This paper addresses vehicle positioning, a topic whose importance has risen dramatically in the context of future autonomous driving systems. While classical methods that use GPS and/or beacon signals from network infrastructure for triangulation tend to be sensitive to multi-paths and signal obstruction, our method exhibits robustness with respect to such phenomena. Our approach builds on the recently proposed Channel-SLAM method which first enabled leveraging of multi-path so as to improve (single) vehicle positioning. Here, we propose a cooperative mapping approach which builds upon the Channel-SLAM concept, referred to here as Team Channel-SLAM. Team Channel-SLAM not only exploits the stationary nature of many reflecting objects around the vehicle, but also capitalizes on the multi-vehicle nature of road traffic. The key intuition behind our method is the exploitation for the first time of the correlation between reflectors around multiple neighboring vehicles. An algorithm is derived for reflector selection and estimation, combined with a team particle filter (TPF) so as to achieve high precision simultaneous multiple vehicle positioning. We obtain large improvement over the single-vehicle positioning scenario, with gains being already noticeable for moderate vehicle densities, such as over 40 % improvement for a vehicle density as low as 4 vehicles in 132 meters' length road.

In view of the rapid development of edge computing and vehicular network, edge-assisted vehicular crowdsensing system has brought significant benefits to Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). To satisfy the requirements of ITS applications, a substantial number of sensed data are generated continuously, which incurs considerable communication and computation delays. In addition, with fast-moving vehicles and the sheer amount of data, data loss becomes an issue during the process of data uploading. To deal with these challenges, this paper aims to propose a cost-and-quality aware data collection scheme for edge-assisted vehicular crowdsensing system, so as to satisfy the accuracy and timeliness requirements of ITS applications without overloading the network. Particularly, we design a functional architecture for edge-assisted vehicular crowdsensing system, where vehicular sensing, data uploading and sensing parameter adjustment interwork to enable ITS applications. Based on the architecture, two effective algorithms are proposed, which are adaptive clustering and online sensing parameter adjustment. Adaptive clustering algorithm can support reliable and timely data uploading by taking into account the cluster stability and the communication reliability during the process of clustering vehicles. Online sensing parameter adjustment algorithm can guide the actions of intelligent vehicles based on the real-time traffic condition, which can achieve a tradeoff between sensing accuracy and communication overhead. In order to evaluate the performance of our scheme, we develop a simulation platform in which all the components in the system are built. By conducting extensive simulation, the superiority of the proposed scheme is validated.
