An intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) is invoked for enhancing the energy harvesting performance of a simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) aided system. Specifically, an IRS-assisted SWIPT system is considered, where a multi-antenna aided base station (BS) communicates with several multi-antenna assisted information receivers (IRs), while guaranteeing the energy harvesting requirement of the energy receivers (ERs). To maximize the weighted sum rate (WSR) of IRs, the transmit precoding (TPC) matrices of the BS and passive phase shift matrix of the IRS should be jointly optimized. To tackle this challenging optimization problem, we first adopt the classic block coordinate descent (BCD) algorithm for decoupling the original optimization problem into several subproblems and alternatively optimize the TPC matrices and the phase shift matrix. For each subproblem, we provide a low-complexity iterative algorithm, which is guaranteed to converge to the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) point of each subproblem. The BCD algorithm is rigorously proved to converge to the KKT point of the original problem. We also conceive a feasibility checking method to study its feasibility. Our extensive simulation results confirm that employing IRSs in SWIPT beneficially enhances the system performance and the proposed BCD algorithm converges rapidly, which is appealing for practical applications.

In this paper, we propose a joint optimization design for a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) based satellite-terrestrial integrated network (STIN), where a satellite multicast communication network shares the millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum with a cellular network employing NOMA technology. By assuming that the satellite uses multibeam antenna array and the base station employs uniform planar array (UPA), we first formulate a constrained optimization problem to maximize the sum rate of the STIN while satisfying the constraint of per-antenna transmit power and quality-of-service (QoS) requirements of both satellite and cellular users. Since the formulated optimization problem is NP-hard and mathematically intractable, we develop a novel user pairing scheme so that more than two users can be grouped in a cluster to exploit NOMA technique. Based on the user clustering, we further propose to transform the non-convex problem into an equivalent convex one, and present an iterative penalty function based beamforming (BF) scheme to obtain the weight vectors and power coefficients with fast convergence. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed approach in comparison with the existing works.

Beamforming is an effective means to improve the quality of the received signals in multiuser multiple-input-singleoutput (MISO) systems. Traditionally, finding the optimal beamforming solution relies on iterative algorithms, which introduces high computational delay and is thus not suitable for realtime implementation. In this paper, we propose a deep learning framework for the optimization of downlink beamforming. In particular, the solution is obtained based on convolutional neural networks and exploitation of expert knowledge, such as the uplink-downlink duality and the known structure of optimal solutions. Using this framework, we construct three beamforming neural networks (BNNs) for three typical optimization problems, i.e., the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) balancing problem, the power minimization problem, and the sum rate maximization problem. For the former two problems the BNNs adopt the supervised learning approach, while for the sum rate maximization problem a hybrid method of supervised and unsupervised learning is employed. Simulation results show that the BNNs can achieve near-optimal solutions to the SINR balancing and power minimization problems, and a performance close to that of the weighted minimum mean squared error algorithm for the sum rate maximization problem, while in all cases enjoy significantly reduced computational complexity. In summary, this work paves the way for fast realization of optimal beamforming in multiuser MISO systems.

This paper considers an active reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system. We aim to maximize radar signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) by jointly optimizing the beamforming matrix at the dual-function radar-communication (DFRC) base station (BS) and the reflecting coefficients at the active RIS subject to the quality of service (QoS) constraints of communication users (UE) and the transmit power constraints of active RIS and DFRC BS. To tackle the optimization problem, the majorization-minimization (MM) algorithm is applied to address the nonconvex radar SINR objective function, and the resulting quartic problem is solved by developing an semidefinite relaxation (SDR)-based approach. Moreover, we derive the scaling order of the radar SINR with a large number of reflecting elements. Next, the transmit power allocation problem and the deployment strategy of the active RIS are studied with a moderate number of reflecting elements. Finally, we validate the potential of the active RIS in ISAC systems compared to passive RIS. Additionally, we deliberate on several open problems that remain for future research.

Vehicular edge computing (VEC) can learn and cache most popular contents for vehicular users (VUs) in the roadside units (RSUs) to support real-time vehicular applications. Federated learning (FL) can protect VUs' privacy by sharing vehicles' local models instead of data. In traditional FL, the global model is periodically updated by aggregating all vehicles' local models. However, vehicles may frequently been driven out of the coverage area of VEC before they finish the local model training and thus the traditional FL cannot upload all local models as expected, which would degrade the accuracy of global model. The asynchronous FL can be performed without aggregating all vehicles' local models, thus more local models can be uploaded to improve the accuracy of global model. The vehicle mobility significantly impacts the asynchronous FL. There is no published work considering the vehicle mobility to design the cooperative caching in VEC based on asynchronous FL. In addition, the caching capacity of RSU is limited and the size of the predicted popular contents usually exceeds the cache capacity of RSU. Hence, VEC should cache the predicted popular contents in different RSUs while considering content transmission delay. In this paper, we consider vehicle mobility and propose a cooperative caching scheme in the VEC based on asynchronous federated and deep reinforcement learning (CAFR). We first consider vehicle mobility and propose an asynchronous FL algorithm to obtain an accurate global model, and then propose an algorithm to predict popular contents based on the global model. In addition, we consider vehicle mobility and propose a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithm to obtain the optimal cooperative caching location for the predicted popular contents in order to optimize the content transmission delay. Extensive experimental results have demonstrated that CAFR scheme outperforms other baseline caching schemes.

Motivated by the fact that both security and energy efficiency are the fundamental requirements and design targets of future satellite communications, this letter investigates secure energy efficient beamforming in multibeam satellite systems, where the satellite user in each beam is surrounded by an eavesdropper attempting to intercept the confidential information. To simultaneously improve the transmission security and reduce power consumption, our design objective is to maximize the system secrecy energy efficiency (SEE) under the constraint of total transmit power budget. Different from the existing schemes with high complexity, we propose an alternating optimization scheme to address the SEE problem by decomposing the original nonconvex problem into subproblems. Specifically, we first utilize the signal-to-leakage-plus-noise ratio (SLNR) metric to obtain closed-form normalized beamforming weight vectors, while the successive convex approximation (SCA) method is used to efficiently solve the power allocation subproblem. Then, an iterative algorithm is proposed to obtain the suboptimal solutions. Finally, simulation results are provided to verify the superiority of the proposed scheme compared to the benchmark schemes.
