Dr. Indranil Banik, after completing Undergraduate and Master's degrees at Trinity College, Cambridge, moved to St. Andrews to pursue a PhD titled Distinguishing Standard from Modified Gravity in the Local Group and Beyond. He then did a Humboldt fellowship in Bonn with Pavel Kroupa on similar topics and also on cosmology. Dr. Banik then returned to Saint Andrews for a postdoctoral position with former PhD advisor Hongsheng Zhao, aiming to test gravity at low accelerations using wide binary stars. He then moved to the University of Portsmouth to work with Harry Desmond on the Hubble tension in cosmology, aiming to test if it might be due to a local void. Indranil Banik has supervised several Master's and PhD students and is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.
