Raúl Sánchez is a surgeon from the University of Chile, specialist in Gynecology-Obstetrics and Physiopathology (University of La Frontera and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile), specialist in Reproductive Medicine and Andrology, and Medical Doctor (J.L. University of Giessen, Germany). He was a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Bonn-Bad Godesberg, Germany), a professor of the Faculty of Medicine (University of La Frontera, Chile), the founder and director of the Center of Excellence in Reproductive Biotechnology, and the first Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies. He was the president of the Chilean Society of Andrology and Gametology and president of ANDRO, which brings together the Andrology societies of Ibero-America. He is the director of the Center of Excellence in Translational Medicine and in charge of the training in Andrology of the Urology scholarship holders in the Faculty of Medicine. He is a corresponding member of the Chilean Academy of Medicine and corresponding member of the National Academy of Medicine of Brazil. In 2021, he received the Avonni National Award for Innovation. Through national and international projects, such as Fondecyt and Corfo, he has published a total of 170 WoS / ISI articles, ten book chapters, and four patents. Of these, twenty-two are WoS/ISI articles, and there are five book chapters and two patents in sperm vitrification, which serve as a world reference in the ultra-fast freezing of male gametes.
