Dr. Kropp is a senior researcher in experimental ophthalmology focused on gene-/cell-therapy to treat neurodegeneration (University of Geneva). She completed her master's in neurophysiology/zoology (RWTH Aachen University, 2006). An internship aroused her interest in stem cells and led to a Ph.D. thesis in progenitor cell therapy in cardiology (Heinrich-Heine University, 2007-2014). She returned to neurophysiology, developed neurodegeneration models, and performed clinical gene therapy research (University Hospital Aachen). She continues this research by working with human donor tissue to study different cell types and whole retinas, directs multiple animal studies, and prepares documentation for regulatory authorities and ethical commissions for clinical trials (UNIGE, 2012).
