AI chatbots (AICs) have the potential to increase the sustainability of a manufacturing supply chain (SC) through sales engagement and customer engagement to accomplish various activities related to logistics and SC in real time. Industry 4.0 (I4.0) has opened up several opportunities with internet-based technologies, along with challenges for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). SMEs are beginning to adopt such technologies for their competitive advantages and the required sustainability in the manufacturing supply chain. AICs may help in accomplishing supply chain visibility (SCV) to enhance sustainable supply chain performance (SSCP). Innovation capability (IC) is also due to disruptive technologies being adopted by SMEs. The present research investigates the role of AICs in SCV and IC, which lead to SSCP, by employing structural equation modeling (SEM). An empirical study based on dynamic capability (DC) theory was carried out using 246 responses, and later Smart PLS-4.0 was used for SEM. The analysis revealed that AICs positively influence SCV and IC to support SSCP. SCV and IC also partially mediate the relationship between the adoption of AICs and SSCP.
The research highlights the importance of sustainable supply chain management (SSCM), technology adoption (TA), and performance measurement in promoting sustainability and improving supply chain performance. By incorporating sustainable practices and utilizing digital technologies, organizations can create a more sustainable future and improve their overall performances. This study conducted an in-depth review of the literature to investigate the presence of TA in SSCM with a focus on digital-based supply chains. The review used both bibliometric and content analysis methods to analyze relevant research articles, with the goal of providing a comprehensive understanding of the current state of research in the field, identifying any gaps in the literature, and providing direction for future research. The content analysis of the literature showed the absence of concrete frameworks for SSCM and the need for clearer and more applicable sustainability measurement indices. To address this gap, the study proposed a framework for achieving sustainable development goals through SSCM. In addition, a framework for deploying sustainability indicators was presented. The proposed framework can be used by practitioners to develop practical and comprehensive measures for their respective industries.

Purpose: The problem of evaluating potential suppliers has always been based on finding an optimal tradeoff between supplier’s performance consistently meeting firms’ needs and acceptable cost. The purpose of this paper is to propose a hybrid multi-criteria decision framework to quantify this qualitative judgment and reduce ambiguity in selection of suppliers in the era of Industry 4.0. Design/methodology/approach: A hybrid intuitionistic fuzzy entropy weight-based multi-criteria decision model with TOPSIS is proposed. The authors make use of the intuitionistic fuzzy weighted approach operator for aggregating individual decision maker’s opinions regarding each alternative over every criterion. Additionally, the authors employ the concept of Shannon’s entropy to calculate the criteria weights. Findings: Results obtained on the basis of the proposed hybrid methodology are analyzed against two more cases wherein the authors try to showcase the relevance of using IFS and entropy-based decision framework and find out the uniqueness of the proposed framework in supplier selection process. Practical implications: The proposed model is apposite to solve management problem of supplier selection in two ways: aggregating individual decision maker’s opinion for each of the predefined criteria along with individual decision maker’s importance and ranking the suppliers based on both positive and negative ideal solutions using TOPSIS. Originality/value: A robust framework incorporates not only suppliers’ performance but also provides weightage to key decision makers. Especially in the context of MCDMs wherein both qualitative and quantitative data is evaluated simultaneously, the proposed framework is unique in its practical implementation of reducing ambiguity in the supplier selection process.
