Beetles play an important role in agrosystems as bioindicators of quality, ecology, conservation, and soil characteristics. The Coleoptera of agrosystems in Morocco are poorly known. To contribute to the knowledge of beetles in this country we conducted a survey in a region of North-West Morocco between 2019 and 2020. The inventory was carried out using several types of traps. We identified 54 species belonging to 14 families, 20 subfamilies, and 18 tribes. The most abundant family was Carabidae, with 24 species, and the most dominant subfamily was Harpalinae, with 19 species. This work provides the first checklist of coleopteran fauna associated with agrosystems in North-West Morocco. We provide an identification key of subfamily and tribe, and update information on the distribution of the beetles identified. Checklist dataset published through GBIF (Doi: 10.15470/ohymvn)

In order to understand the relationship between the biological characteristics of insects and their environment, an entomological study was conducted at 5 stations (agricultural and natural) in the region of northwest Morocco (Sidi Kacem) between March 2019 and September 2020. Three sampling...

The Carabidae play an increasing role in biodiversity conservation and ecological monitoring, making a faunistic update all the more necessary. Carabids, however, are poorly known considering their diversity in the world. Also known as ground beetles, they are the fourth most diverse group within the Coleoptera, but the amount of published data sets from Morocco is disproportionately small; many species and regions have yet to be well researched. In an effort to fill this gap, we studied the faunistic composition of the carabidae in the north-west of Morocco between spring 2019 and summer 2020 at three different habitat types using two types of traps. Here we present new data on some rare and poorly known Carabidae in Morocco: Pterostichus (Sterocorus) globosus ssp. globosus (Fabricius, 1792), Poecilus (Parapedius) decipiens ssp. decipiens (Waltl, 1835), Harpalus neglectus alluaudi (Antoine, 1922), Graniger cordicollis (Audinet Serville, 1821), Brachinus (Brachinus) efflans (Dejean, 1830), Brachinus (Brachinidius) angustatus (Dejean, 1831), Carabus (Macrothorax) rugosus ssp. rugosus (Fabricius, 1792) and Siagona dejeani (Rambur, 1838). Our results contribute to the knowledge of the Moroccan carabid fauna by introducing eight new localities of terrestrial insects that were poorly unknown and infrequently reported in Morocco over the past 20 years. Agriculture plays a crucial role in Morocco, as it not only contributes significantly to the economy but also enhances food security. Within the realm of agriculture, the order Hemiptera encompasses a diverse range of species and behaviors, some of which are notorious for wreaking havoc on crops worldwide. By gaining a deeper understanding of the bugs associated with agroecosystems, we can effectively identify both pests and beneficial species, thereby improving agricultural production. The findings of our study hold immense importance in implementing effective control measures. This paper aims to present a comprehensive checklist of bugs associated with agroecosystems in the north-west region of Morocco. Our study was conducted between the spring and summer of 2019 and 2020, encompassing three different crop fields that represent the major plant formations of the area, namely cereal, broad bean, and alfalfa fields. To ensure a thorough examination, we employed two distinct sampling techniques: mowing net and sight hunting. A total of 6 families of Hemiptera were identified: Reduviidae, Lygaeidae, Pentatomidae, Cercopidae, Scutelleridae, and Alydidae. The information presented in this paper serves as a valuable resource for future studies on Hemiptera associated with agroecosystems in Morocco. By harnessing this data, we can delve into the realm of potential control strategies and craft effective measures to tackle the challenges presented by these insects. This deeper understanding of the bugs within agroecosystems will serve as a catalyst for the development of sustainable and highly productive agricultural practices in Morocco.
