The existing control methods for the slip rate of the driving wheel of a test prototype have limitations that cause low-quality tillage and finishing operations. We propose a slip rate control method based on the dual factor adjustment of wheel speed and tillage depth, taking the power shift tractor New Holland T1404 as an example to verify the algorithm. This method employs the wheel speed control principle based on the power transmission ratio calculation, throttle adjustment, and wheel speed control methods, as well as the slip rate control method, with wheel speed–slip rate control as the main factor and tillage depth–slip rate control as the secondary factor. A tractor test prototype was built to validate the method. The wheel speed control method enabled the tractor to accurately control the wheel speed under three working conditions: no load on a cemented ground, no load in a field, and subsoiling operation. For the subsoiling operation, the slip rate control method gradually reduced the tractor wheel speed when the slip rate of the tractor’s drive wheel was too high until it met the requirements. When the wheel speed was adjusted to the lower limit, suspension control was performed to reduce the tillage depth and improve vehicle trafficability. In the 130 s validation test, it took 14.1 s for the tractor with the slip rate control function to have a wheel slip rate exceeding 20%, which was 25.4% lower than that of the tractor without this function. The proposed method controls the slip rate within the optimal range while ensuring maximum operation quality (tillage depth).

Aiming to address the problems of low detection accuracy and poor stability due to the weak anti-interference ability of the bridge circuit and operational amplifier circuit, and the influence on the capacitance of the bulk density and temperature of the straw bale, an on-line detection device for the moisture content of straw bales in a square baler was developed based on the capacitance method. The device integrates a capacitance sensor, pressure sensor, and temperature sensor. The optimal structure size of the capacitor plate was determined through the simulation test of the capacitor sensor plate structure. A moisture content monitoring system based on the MATLAB language is built, and the moisture content detection model was constructed based on the backpropagation neural network (BPNN) algorithm. Finally, a test bench for a square baling machine was designed, and a performance verification test of the moisture content detection device was carried out. The simulation results of the capacitor plate show that when the length, width, and spacing of the capacitor plate are 148.6, 47.7, and 5.1 mm, respectively, the detection sensitivity of the capacitor plate is the highest. The modeling results show that the R2, RMSE, and RPD of the BPNN model are 0.986, 0.008998, and 5.99, respectively, with solid data fitting ability and high prediction accuracy. The bench test results show that for the samples having moisture content between 13.1 and 28.04%, the coefficient of determination R2 of the fitting curve between the predicted value of moisture content and the actual value is 0.949. The relative error range of the predicted value of moisture content is −6.51–8.66%, and the absolute error range is −1.63–1.72%. The on-line detection device for moisture content of straw bales has good accuracy and stability.

Considering the slow response and unstable velocity of agricultural machinery caused by soil resistance, actuator delay, environmental change, velocity fluctuation, and other internal and external factors under real working conditions, a kind of agricultural machinery following a control system that considers variable load and control delay was proposed. Taking distance-keeping, velocity-following, and acceleration-following as parameters, the controller model was deduced, and the influence of different values of model parameters on the driving stability of agricultural machinery was analyzed in detail. In addition, this paper describes a kind of agricultural machinery following a strategy that can realize the graded adjustment of vehicle distance with the dynamic increase in vehicle weight. Then, the following strategy, under the influence of velocity and quality, was simulated and verified using MATLAB/Simulink (MATLAB2016a, mathworks: Natick, Massachusetts, USA). When the crop harvester was at 1.5 m/s and the amplitude of velocity fluctuation was 0.3 m and 1.3 m, respectively, the grain truck could adjust its velocity to keep up with the crop harvester to complete the operation task. Simulation verification was carried out for the proposed graded adjustment of vehicle distance of agricultural machinery following strategy. The unit mass of the crops was set at 360 kg, and the vehicle distance changed at 18s to adapt to the graded adjustment of the vehicle distance following strategy. Finally, a real-vehicle validation test was carried out, and the results show that the grain truck velocity can keep up with the change of crop harvester velocity on the basis of maintaining the desired vehicle distance, the grain truck velocity can keep up with the change of crop harvester velocity on the road condition, which verifies the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method.

Accurate heading estimation is crucial for the autonomous navigation of small-to-medium tractors. While dual-antenna GNSS systems offer precision, they face installation and safety challenges. Single-antenna GNSS integrated with a low-cost Strapdown Inertial Navigation System (SINS) presents a more adaptable solution but suffers from slow convergence and low accuracy of heading estimation in low-speed farmland operations. This study proposes an adaptive trajectory-constrained heading estimation method. A sliding-window adaptive extended Kalman filter (SWAEKF) was developed, incorporating a heading constraint model that utilizes the GNSS-derived trajectory angle. An enhanced Sage–Husa algorithm was employed for the adaptive estimation of the trajectory angle measurement variance. Furthermore, a covariance initialization strategy based on the variance of trajectory angle increments was implemented to accelerate convergence. Field tests demonstrated that the proposed method achieved rapid heading convergence (less than 10 s for straight lines and 14 s for curves) and high accuracy (RMS heading error below 0.15° for straight-line tracking and 0.25° for curved paths). Compared to a conventional adaptive EKF, the SWAEKF improved accuracy by 23% and reduced convergence time by 62%. The proposed algorithm effectively enhances the performance of GNSS/SINS integrated navigation for tractors in low-dynamic environments, meeting the requirements for autonomous navigation systems.

Field-scale information on rice seedling distribution is crucial for transplanting quality assessment, site-specific seedling-stage management, and precision agricultural operations. However, seedlings in UAV orthomosaics are small, closely spaced, and easily confused with soil, shallow water, plastic mulch, and shadows, which makes accurate localization challenging. Meanwhile, under high-density planting, existing segmentation-based networks often generate adhesive responses between neighboring seedlings, leading to missed detections and biased counting. To address these issues, this study proposed PPNet, a deep learning framework for rice seedling localization and distribution mapping from UAV orthomosaics. The framework uses root-based point annotation and integrates a rice-point perception module (RPPM), an adjacent decoupling module (ADM), and an aggregated attention module (AAM). These modules enhance seedling-point responses, separate adjacent seedlings, and introduce row-structure information. Experiments were conducted on a UAV orthomosaic dataset containing 3,013 image tiles and 220,553 seedling point annotations from different rice-growing regions. PPNet achieved an F1 score of 0.9029, an AP of 0.8881, a counting MAE of 6.99, and an R2 of 0.9553. The method also generated field-scale seedling point maps and density maps under different planting densities and field backgrounds. The results demonstrate that PPNet can provide reliable seedling localization and counting information for crop establishment assessment and targeted seedling management, supporting intelligent agricultural machinery decision-making in precision farming operations.

In unmanned farms, machinery transfer between fields and access to field entrances are essential prerequisites for autonomous field operations, and both require support from an accurately structured farm-road network. However, existing road data are typically maintained as vector layers and lack the topological relationships and geometric attributes needed for transfer-route and field-entrance planning. This study proposes a method for constructing farm-road topological maps from road and field vector data. The method converts road polygons into a node–edge graph containing centerline geometry, estimates road-segment widths to support the safe passage of agricultural machinery, and establishes bidirectional road–field associations based on field-access nodes. Experiments in three farm areas show that the proposed method achieves a mean symmetric centerline error of 0.094 m; width-estimation mean absolute error (MAE) and root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.032 m and 0.060 m, respectively; and a 100% success rate in 50 random path-planning tasks. The farm-road topological map constructed by this method provides spatial infrastructure for agricultural-machinery path planning and operation scheduling in unmanned farms.
