Dr. Sharmila Fagoonee (Ph.D.) is a Researcher at the Institute of Biostructure and Bioimaging of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) in Turin, Italy. After her BSc (hons) degree in Biology at the University of Mauritius and MSc degree in Cellular Biology at Université Victor Segalen, Bordeaux, France, she obtained her PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology at the University of Turin, Italy. She also holds an MSc in Molecular Biotechnology. After her post-doc training at BIDMC, Harvard, Boston, USA, she started working in the field of regenerative medicine, especially on embryonic stem cells and spermatogonial stem cells and their differentiative capacity. As a CNR researcher, she is currently studying new therapies and biomarkers (extracellular vesicles) for human liver diseases as well as the role of the RNA binding protein ESRP1 in the progression of human gastrointestinal tumors. She is also the coordinator and lecturer of the Master’s course in Stem Cells, Regenerative Medicine and Cell factory Management at the University of Turin. Dr. Fagoonee is the Chief Editor of Minerva Biotechnology and Biomolecular Research journal and is active as an Editorial Board member as well as a Reviewer of several scientific journals.
