Biography

Dr. Shilpa S. Dhar is an Assistant Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. With expertise in molecular biology, cancer biology, and epigenetics, her research focuses on histone-modifying enzymes and their roles in cancer genetics. She has published numerous high-impact papers and has over 200 citations. Dr. Dhar earned her PhD in Zoology from Gujarat University in India and a Master’s in Organizational Leadership and Quality Management from Marian University in Wisconsin, USA. She also mentors students and postdoctoral fellows at the UT Health Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in the Molecular and Translational Biology Department. Her current research investigates the epigenetic mechanisms in brain tumor development, particularly MLL4 (KMT2D)-catalyzed H3K4 methylation, using genetically engineered mouse models. Her work established MLL4 as a tumor suppressor in medulloblastoma and explored how histone modifications interact. Dr. Dhar has significantly advanced the understanding of histone methylation modifiers, publishing in esteemed journals like Genes & Development and Cancer Research. She has also advocated for women in cancer research through Frontiers in Molecular & Cellular Oncology editorials. She is a member and Editor of several professional journals and has received multiple awards for her contributions to cancer biology and epigenetics.
