Prof. Dr. Irene Oi-Lin Ng is currently the Chair Professor of the Department of Pathology at the University of Hong Kong, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine and Loke Yew Professor in Pathology. She is also the Director of the State Key Laboratory of Liver Research. She graduated with an M.B.B.S. degree from the University of Hong Kong. Her research work focuses on the molecular basis in the formation and progression of liver cancer, the identification of liver cancer stem cells and the characterization of important genes, cell signaling pathways and microRNAs. Her laboratory looks into the major oncogenic signaling pathways in liver cancer and their cooperation and crosstalk. Significantly, she has established useful pathological and biological parameters with prognostic significance for patient management. Her research studies have provided important insights into the understanding of liver cancer development and may help in identifying potential targets for novel cancer therapy. Her contributions to the fields of liver cancer and hepatitis have been recognised by prestigious awards, including the Croucher Senior Medical Research Fellowship from the Croucher Foundation Hong Kong (2005 & 2013).
