Anti-Proliferation Effects of Benzimidazole Derivatives on HCT-116 Colon Cancer and MCF-7 Breast Cancer Cell Lines Benzimidazole;hydroxyl group;benzyloxy group;anti-proliferation;HCT-116;MCF-7;MTT assay; Benzimidazoles 1-4 were obtained using modified synthesis methods and studied for their ability to inhibit cell proliferation of colon cancer cell HCT-116 and breast cancer cell MCF-7 using MTT assays. In the HCT-116 cell line, benzimidazole 2 was found to have an $IC_{50}$ value of $16.2{\pm}3.85{\mu}g/mL$ and benzimidazole 1 a value of $28.5{\pm}2.91{\mu}g/mL$, while that for benzimidazole 4 was $24.08{\pm}0.31{\mu}g/mL$. In the MCF-7 cell line, benzimidazole 4 had an $IC_{50}$ value of $8.86{\pm}1.10{\mu}g/mL$, benzimidazole 2 a value of $30.29{\pm}6.39{\mu}g/mL$, and benzimidazole 1 a value of $31.2{\pm}4.49{\mu}g/mL$. Benzimidazole 3 exerted no cytotoxity in either of the cell lines, with $IC_{50}$ values $>50{\mu}g/mL$. The results suggest that benzimidazoles derivatives may have chemotherapeutic potential for treatment of both colon and breast cancers.

This study was amid to assess Arsenic and Cadmium in whole blood in participate with occupational and environmental exposure to toxic metals. Metals were determined by inductively coupled plasma – optical emission spectrometry ICP-OES after digested by dry ashing in the microwave muffle for 99 samples collected at different stations and occupations in Sana’a, Yemen and applying biomonitoring human model BHM on the evaluation of metallic toxicity among a human population. From the results, it is noted that the range and average concentrations measured in ppb were 0.41-2.43 for Cadmium, 0.59-1.22 for Arsenic. It can be concluded that Cadmium contaminating blood samples. However, the possibility of Arsenic poisoning cases might be encountered in the future unless it would be avoided. The concentrations of Arsenic in some many categories lying within the normal ranges and slightly approaching the hazard limits. Interestingly, the hazard trend of metallic toxicity was increased in the order: Arsenic > Cadmium and that younger and junior workers of unsafe harder occupations.

The title compound, [Fe(C2N3)2(C8H7N5)2]·2H2O, has been synthesized solvothermally and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The octahedral iron coordination polyhedron contains two di(pyrimidin-2-yl)amine ligands coordinated in a bidentate fashion, and two monodentate dicyanimido ligands, each coordinated via a terminal N atom, with the latter in a cis orientation. The ligand configuration about the iron atom is chiral, although the compound crystallizes as a racemic mixture: the Fe—N distances (> 2.07 Å) are characteristic of high-spin iron(II). In the crystal, an extensive series of N—H...N, O—H...N and O—H...O hydrogen bonds links the independent molecular components into a three-dimensional framework. The H atoms of both water molecules are disordered. The structure also features some π–π and anion–π interactions. The intermolecular interactions were investigated by Hirshfeld surface analysis and two-dimensional fingerprint plots. Comparisons are made with some related compounds.

In the title compound, C(14)H(14)N(2)O(2), the dihedral angle between the two benzene rings is 9.67 (10)°. Two intra-molecular O-H⋯N and N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds involving the hydr-oxy and amino groups generate S(6) and S(5) ring motifs, respectively. In the crystal structure, N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link neighboring mol-ecules. Mol-ecules are also stacked in a head-to-tail fashion along the c axis through π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid separation of 3.7357 (12) Å] and are further linked by weak inter-molecular C-H⋯π inter-actions, giving a zigzag arrangement along the b axis.

Diazo dyes compounds have a variety biological and industrial applications. In this study, the molecular structures and the spectroscopic parameters of three synthesized diazo dyes 1–3 were computed using a Density Functional Theory DFT method with the B3LYP/6-311++G(d.p), The results indicate that all three diazo dyes are preferred thermodynamically. Compound 3 has a higher value of entropy and more negative values of heat formation and Gibb's free energy as compared to the other dyes. The FTIR spectra of 2 and 3 show that the nitro functional groups at ortho positions appear at lower symmetrical stretching frequencies. At all, there is a good agreement with the experimental results. On the other hand, the energy gap decreases in this order 2, 3 and 1, also, the FTIR spectrum of compound 1 shows a lower symmetrical stretching frequency of the nitro functional group at the para position.

Two Schiff base tetradentate ligands 4 and 5 were synthesized by condensation reactions of 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-5-((2-nitrophenyl)diazenyl) benzaldehyde 1 with 1,2-diaminoethane 2 and 1,2-diaminobenzene 3, respectively. Treatment of synthesized ligands with the manganese (II) chloride MnCl26 gave two complexes 7 and 8 of general formula ML. The synthesized ligands and their complexes were characterized by FTIR, UV-Vis, Mass spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. The biological activity of the synthesized compounds were tested. It was found that ligand 5 and the complexes 7 and 8 possess antibacterial activity against the gram –ve Proteus mirabilis.
