The aim of the performed study was to investigate personal and environmental factors as predictors of thermal sensation perceived by a population of students in a university setting. The study consisted of two samples, a winter sample (154 students: 44.2% males and 55.8% females, aged 19–30 years) and a spring sample (147 students: 52.4% males and 47.6% females, aged 19–30 years), randomly selected from the same population of students. The method was an observational inquiry (case study) with a standardized questionnaire (11 items, 3 items for thermal sensation assessing through 3 scales with 3, 5 and 7 steps, alpha Cronbach’s index 0.854) applied and establishing 3 microclimate factors (air temperature, relative humidity and wind velocity), with calculation of normal effective temperature. The survey was performed over four successive days, during two seasons (winter—February and spring—May). The performed study demonstrated a tendency of students to perceive the comfortably cold more frequently than comfortably warm throughout the 4 days of the survey during the winter, except Monday. Thermal sensation of discomfort was more frequently perceived as warm than cold throughout the spring time of the survey and winter, except Tuesday. Predictors of thermal sensation perceived by students in the amphitheatre were as follows: nationality (−2loglikelihood change or chi square = 42.12, Sig. 0.000), relative humidity (chi square = 10.65, Sig. 0.005) and gender during the winter, and wind velocity (change in −2loglikelihood = 11.96, Sig. 0.001) and nationality during the spring. Certain personal and environmental factors were suggested as predictors for thermal sensation perceived by a population of students in a study setting.

The present study aimed to investigate the spatial and temporal distribution of nitrates and nitrites in the farms’ water of Timis County. The sample for the study consisted of 4028 analysis bulletins of the nitrate and nitrite concentrations, measured in 41 farms and local water sources over two years (2016- 2242 and 2017- 1904 water samples) by the Surveillance Service, Public Health Direction, Timis. The data has been analysed with an observational case study of the spatial and temporal distribution of nitrate and nitrite concentrations in the farm water in Timis County. It has been found that the mean concentrations of nitrite and nitrate were lower than the standards, with a statistically significant difference (t=8.11, Sig.< 0.001) between the 2 years of study and with higher values recorded in 2016 than in 2017. A specific spatial distribution of the mean concentrations of these two substances was slightly high in old, polluted localities and pig farms in Timis County.

OBJECTIVE: In the study conducted accentuated personalities related to daily cigarette smoking in college students were investigated. MATERIAL OF STUDY consisted in a case-sample of 349 daily smokers (49.3% females, 50.7% males) and a control-sample of 880 non-smokers (65.3% women, 34.7% men) from an initial group of 1364 (aged 19-30 years) surveyed students. THE METHOD was an observational case-control inquiry with two questionnaires applying: Health Questionnaire (60 items-8 items for smoking) and Accentuated Personalities Questionnaire (88 items, alpha-Crohnbach index-0.823). Statistical analysis (chi square and gamma correlation) was performed by SPSS 20 Program. RESULTS: Three accentuated personalities were more prominent in daily smokers in comparison with nonsmokers and were related to daily-smoking with statistical significance: IV-unruly (answers to items: S30–χ2=14.73, γ=0.23; S42-χ2=30.25, γ=0.36; and S52-χ2=32.71, γ=0.35; Sig.0.000), I-demonstrative (S7-χ2=18.89, γ=0.27; S44-χ2=16.24, γ=0.27; and S88-χ2=20.05, γ=0.27; Sig.0.000) and VII-cyclothymic nature (S72-χ2=32.24, γ=0.35; Sig.0.000). CONCLUSION: a relation between accentuated personalities and cigarette smoking is suggested.

Objective: The aim of the performed study was to investigate the traumatic health effects in patients received at the emergency service due to a storm event that happened on the 17th of September 2017 in Timisoara. Material of study consisted of a sample of 75 patients (62.67% males, 37.33% females) who came to the emergency service of the County Hospital with traumatic health effects. The method was an observational case-study with an investigation of traumatic health effects. Results: Traumatic health effects due to the storm were caused by patients falling (51.78% of diagnostics: fractures, contusions, sprains) and by being hit by flying objects (42.85% of diagnostics: craniocerebral traumatisms and contusive wounds). The patients were either sent home (54.66%), admitted (25.34%) and hospitalized (13.33% more than 10 days) or transferred (12%). Conclusion: Traumatic health effects due to the storm were severe and involved substantial recovery time and considerable expense of resources.
