He graduated in Molecular Biology from Odense University (now SDU) in 1990 and obtained a PhD in Clinical Genetics from Aarhus University in 1999. He has more than 25 years of experience in clinical genetics, molecular biology, and translational genomic research. His research focuses on rare genetic disorders, genomic diagnostics, individualized medicine, inherited and somatic variation, and genome-wide gene activity, with current interests including congenital hyperinsulinism, hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, endocrine disorders, pancreatic cancer, and single-cell and long-read transcriptomics. He is a member of the European Society of Human Genetics, European Society of Endocrinology, Nordic Alliance for Clinical Genomics, Danish Society of Clinical Genetics, Danish Society of Clinical Academics, and CHI Collaborative Research Network. Since 2019, he has served on the Illumina Sequencing Expert Panel and is a member and co-chair of the National Genome Center Working Group for Variant Interpretation, as well as EndoGenNet and DermaGenNet.
