Lysandros Tsoulos is Professor Emeritus of Cartography at the School of Rural, Surveying, and Geoinformatics Engineering—National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He is also Affiliate Professor at the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping—University of New Hampshire. In 1975, he joined the Hellenic Navy Hydrographic Service (HNHS), where he worked for 17 years (Directorate of Cartography and the HNHS Computing Center). In 1992, he was elected as a member of the faculty at the School of Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering—NTUA. He was director of the NTUA Geomatics Center and the Cartography Laboratory. He has authored/co-authored over 140 research papers on Digital Mapping and GIS published in journals or conference proceedings. His citation index includes at least 400 references to his work. His research interests include cartographic design, composition and generalization, expert systems, GIS, digital atlases, spatial data and map quality issues, spatial data standards, and the law of the sea. He was president of the Hellenic Cartographic Society and has been a member of national and international scientific committees (FIG/IHO/ICA International Board of Standards of Competence for Hydrographic Surveyors and Nautical Cartographers, Expert Group on Quality, etc.). Recently, he was awarded the title of Honorary Member of the International Cartographic Association.
