The k-Nearest Neighbors (kNN) method, established in 1951, has since evolved into a pivotal tool in data mining, recommendation systems, and Internet of Things (IoT), among other areas. This paper presents a comprehensive review and performance analysis of modifications made to enhance the exact kNN techniques, particularly focusing on kNN Search and kNN Join for high-dimensional data. We delve deep into 31 kNN search methods and 12 kNN join methods, providing a methodological overview and analytical insight into each, emphasizing their strengths, limitations, and applicability. An important feature of our study is the provision of the source code for each of the kNN methods discussed, fostering ease of experimentation and comparative analysis for readers. Motivated by the rising significance of kNN in high-dimensional spaces and a recognized gap in comprehensive surveys on exact kNN techniques, our work seeks to bridge this gap. Additionally, we outline existing challenges and present potential directions for future research in the domain of kNN techniques, offering a holistic guide that amalgamates, compares, and dissects existing methodologies in a coherent manner. The Internet of Things (IoT) has seen a surge in mobile devices with the market and technical expansion. IoT networks provide end-to-end connectivity while keeping minimal latency. To reduce delays, efficient data delivery schemes are required for dispersed fog-IoT network orchestrations. We use a Spark-based big data processing scheme (BDPS) to accelerate the distributed database (RDD) delay efficient technique in the fogs for a decentralized heterogeneous network architecture to reinforce suitable data allocations via IoTs. We propose BDPS based on Spark-RDD in fog-IoT overlay architecture to address the performance issues across the network orchestration. We evaluate data processing delays from fog-IoT integrated parts using a depth-first-search-based shortest path node finding configuration, which outperforms the existing shortest path algorithms in terms of algorithmic (i.e., depth-first search) efficiency, including the Bellman–Ford (BF) algorithm, Floyd–Warshall (FW) algorithm, Dijkstra algorithm (DA), and Apache Hadoop (AH) algorithm. The BDPS exhibits low latency in packet deliveries as well as low network overhead uplink activity through a map-reduced resilient data distribution mechanism, better than in BF, DA, FW, and AH. The overall BDPS scheme supports efficient data delivery across the fog-IoT orchestration, outperforming faster node execution while proving effective results, compared to DA, BF, FW and AH, respectively.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has recently attracted much interest from researchers due to its diverse IoT applications. However, IoT systems encounter additional security and privacy threats. Developing an efficient IoT system is challenging because of its sophisticated network topology. Effective access control is required to ensure user privacy in the Internet of Things. Traditional access control methods are inappropriate for IoT systems because most conventional access control approaches are designed for centralized systems. This paper proposes a decentralized access control framework based on smart contracts with three parts: initialization, an access control protocol, and an inspection. Smart contracts are used in the proposed framework to store access control policies safely on the blockchain. The framework also penalizes users for attempting unauthorized access to the IoT resources. The smart contract was developed using Remix and deployed on the Ropsten Ethereum testnet. We analyze the performance of the smart contract-based access policies based on the gas consumption of blockchain transactions. Further, we analyze the system’s security, usability, scalability, and interoperability performance.

Efficient energy demand forecasting is pivotal for addressing energy challenges in remote areas of Bangladesh, where reliable access to energy resources remains a concern. This study proposes an innovative approach that combines linear regression analysis (LRA) and inverse matrix calculation (IMC) to forecast energy demand accurately in these underserved regions. By leveraging historical energy consumption data and pertinent predictors, such as meteorological conditions, population dynamics, economic indicators, and seasonal patterns, the model provides reliable forecasts. The application of the proposed methodology is demonstrated through a case study focused on remote regions of Bangladesh. The results showcase the approach's effectiveness in capturing the intricate dynamics of energy demand and its potential to inform sustainable energy management strategies in these remote areas. This research contributes to the advancement of energy planning and resource allocation in regions facing energy scarcity, fostering a path towards improved energy efficiency and development. These techniques can be applied to estimate short-term electricity demand for any rural or isolated region worldwide.

DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) N4-methylcytosine (4mC), a kind of epigenetic modification of DNA, is important for modifying gene functions, such as protein interactions, conformation, and stability in DNA, as well as for the control of gene expression throughout cell development and genomic imprinting. This simply plays a crucial role in the restriction–modification system. To further understand the function and regulation mechanism of 4mC, it is essential to precisely locate the 4mC site and detect its chromosomal distribution. This research aims to design an efficient and high-throughput discriminative intelligent computational system using the natural language processing method “word2vec” and a multi-configured 1D convolution neural network (1D CNN) to predict 4mC sites. In this article, we propose a grid search-based multi-layer dynamic ensemble system (GS-MLDS) that can enhance existing knowledge of each level. Each layer uses a grid search-based weight searching approach to find the optimal accuracy while minimizing computation time and additional layers. We have used eight publicly available benchmark datasets collected from different sources to test the proposed model’s efficiency. Accuracy results in test operations were obtained as follows: 0.978, 0.954, 0.944, 0.961, 0.950, 0.973, 0.948, 0.952, 0.961, and 0.980. The proposed model has also been compared to 16 distinct models, indicating that it can accurately predict 4mC.
