Joan Martí holds a PhD in Geology and is currently a Research Professor at CSIC. He is the former Director of Geosciences Barcelona, CSIC. His specialties are physical volcanology and volcanic risk. He has been Secretary General of the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI), Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research (Elsevier), and Director of the International Course on Volcanology at the University of Girona since 2011. He is also a member of the European Academy and an Honorary Member of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics.
