Biography

I am a Peruvian DVM currently working as Assistant Professor at San Marcos University, and a researcher at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. During undergraduate and graduate training, I conducted research as coordinator of a project studying the epidemiology and control of cysticercosis in rural areas. As a postgraduate, I started to gain experience in molecular biology, developing protocols to detect and quantify T. solium eggs. During my PhD, I worked in the Laboratory of Viral Contaminants of Water and Food at Barcelona University. There I developed diagnostic methods to quantify and express the risk of viral foodborne disease through quantitative microbial risk assessments. After my PhD dissertation, I returned to Peru to restart my work in the Andean Region. Currently, I am working on a NIH award to develop and validate an agent-based simulation model that can integrate and query new transmission mechanisms to better inform control and elimination interventions.
