This article aims to improve the power quality components of the AC microgrid (ACMG). The proposed module for this article is a modified-unified power quality conditioner (M-UPQC). The M-UPQC controller performs on principles of current and voltage source inverters and the resonant component of the system. Here, the research innovation consists of two sections: first, the modification of the desired module controller setting according to the power quality nature received from the grid to find the best parameters for resetting the M-UPQC controller; second, adjusting the proportional-integral multiresonant (PI-MR) control parameters of M-UPQC by the black hole optimization (BHO) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) techniques. In the following, the proposed procedure will be a programmed multiobjective technique. The designed multiobjective functions will be optimized by the BHO and PSO methods to adjust PI-MR controller parameters to reduce the system harmonic perturbations. The simulation results show the improvement of the ACMG operation by considering the proposed technique. To confirm the results obtained from the case study simulation platform, the experimental results of the harmonic components are presented in the results section.

The purpose of this paper is to study the harmonic behavior of hybrid microgrids (MGs). To achieve the desired goal, a modified active power filter (MAPF) and a power filter compensator kit (PFCK) modules have been used to improve the harmonics of the AC part of the system. The main challenge and feature of this research is the optimization of MAPF and PFCK controller gain coefficients hierarchical, using Harris hawk optimization (HHO), grasshopper optimization algorithm (GOA), artificial bee colony (ABC), and differential evolution (DE), respectively. Following, this technique was applied in the three control loops including, voltage and current harmonics, and system controller error to reduce the range of the mentioned harmonics to the permissible range. The method will be interesting considering that the PI and PID tuning is based on parallel feed‐forward. The programmed objective functions include the three components current THD, voltage THD and controller error hierarchically. From the point of view of the MGs hierarchical control, the method presented in this study will be implemented in the second level of hierarchical control. In order to improve the operation of the DC part of the grid, a boost converter module (BCM) has been introduced in the form of a new synchronization scheme. The output of the simulation shows the reduction of the harmonic amplitude of the system by the mentioned modules.

This paper focuses on the control development of a grid-tied photovoltaic system coupled with a shunt active power filter. The considered power system includes a PV panel, a single-capacitor three half-bridge interleaved buck converter connected to a three-phase power grid and a nonlinear load. This study aims to accomplish simultaneously three objectives: i) to ensure a high compensation level of current harmonics and reactive power consumed by the nonlinear load in order to perform power factor correction at the grid side; ii) to extract the maximum power from the PV panel regardless the climatic conditions; iii) to regulate the dc bus capacitor voltage to its reference provided by the MPPT controller. To this end, a controller using a two-loop cascade strategy is designed. First, the inner loop is developed with the hybrid automaton approach to formulate the switching control signals with the aim of guaranteeing a unitary power factor. Second, the outer loop is designed using fuzzy logic control to ensure the regulation of the photovoltaic voltage, while the perturb and observe algorithm is employed to perform maximum power point tracking. Finally, the system with the developed control scheme is simulated using MATLAB/SimPowerSystems environment. The obtained results confirm that the proposed controller is able to achieve the previous objectives under varying environmental conditions.

This paper deals with nonlinear control of a single-phase half-bridge interleaved buck shunt active power filter (HBIB-SAPF) with a nonlinear load. The control objective for the system is twofold: performing power factor correction by compensating for harmonics and reactive current consumed by the nonlinear load from one hand and tightly regulating the HBIB converter DC capacitor voltage. Both objectives are accomplished using a two-loop nonlinear controller. The inner loop acts on the switching devices so that the active filter current tracks its reference with the aim of ensuring a unity power factor. This loop is tackled using backstepping technique and Lyapunov approach. The outer loop is responsible for regulating the DC capacitor voltage to its desired value, using a PI controller with a pre-filter. The stability analysis of the closed-loop system is formally performed by using the averaging theory. The validity of the designed nonlinear controller is checked by simulations in Matlab/SimpowerSystem showing its robustness and accuracy under various operating conditions.
