The study presented in the paper is an innovative research approach. It is the result of linking the concept of supply chain management and global changes, which at present are clearly visible on a global scale, with research methodology based on the systematic literature review, knowledge visualization and an expert method that makes use of knowledge, experience and opinions of experts in a given field. This research is about a Delphi study that was conducted in the context of the development of trends of supply chain and global changes, based on the findings of a systematic literature review. The qualitative study was conducted with 30 Delphi experts in the field of the supply chain. This progressive approach to the research topic allowed us to discover key global trends and modern supply chain development directions in the context of global changes, as well as their assessment and projection of the developmental potential of these trends.

The base of knowledge related to supply chain (SC) research is dynamically expanding. The growing trend of publishing scientific papers on the subject is observable, which indicates that the supply chain concept is in the centre of attention of scientists and researchers. It can be assumed that the tendency will continue. This proves the expansive nature of research in the analysed area. The goal of the chapter to present the classify trends and development directions of supply chains. The goal is of cognitive and conceptual character and the research implemented benefits from text mining method. Research is necessary from academic perspective, not only to organize the knowledge but also to identify future research potential. To achieve the research goal, an original methodology was designed by selecting research methods and tools to answer comprehensively to the research questions. The importance of research results for the development of supply chain, management and quality science is indisputable. Research to be conducted strives to prove that heterogeneity, multi-facetedness and multi-directionality of research on supply chain is a difficult but definable phenomenon.

The development of the global economy affects the environment in which we are living, often in negative ways, including pollutions, exhaust emissions, depletion of natural resources, and other concerns. Therefore, it is so important to use resources in a reasonable, sustainable manner and to be aware of the impact of our activities on the environment, which in the next stage translates into trying to limit negative impacts to the environment. Aspects of sustainable supply chain (SSC) have become more and more popular in the last years. Entrepreneurs pay more attention to the aspect of sustainable development in their activities, especially to exhaust emissions. The rational use of resources is also a very important topic. Not only economic aspects but also environmental and social topics are taken into account in company politics, which is characteristic of sustainable development. The main purpose of this article is to show the benefits of SSC. For this purpose, the simulation models showing the supply chain and the sustainable supply chain will be built. The benefits of SSC in economic and environmental aspects will be presented using a computer simulation tool. Using a simulation tool fits in with sustainability; thanks to modeling supply chains in their virtuality and analysis, many resources can be saved in reality (for example, thanks to the consolidation of freight).

E-commerce is a fast-growing part of the market. Dynamic development of internet technology and increase of mobile devices popularity gives this branch very good perspective. E-commerce is still young. Trends on it are set by a few websites, which created this market, and which provide still new and innovative solutions to their customers. However, there are still more and more underdogs, who decided to focus on particular niches. This decision gives them a possibility to reach specific audience. More and more entrepreneurs noticed this trend and try to use it for their businesses. However, due to the number of new websites, selection of the proper one is not an easy task. The main goal of the chapter was to select the key factors, which will help entrepreneurs to choose the best platform for their needs.

The article presents the issue of reverse logistics in the configuration of a sustainable supply chain. The focus was on optimizing the supply chain as a complex and dynamically changing system. In order to analyze the problem of reuse of the component/finished product, a simulation model was built based on the actual realities of the industry. This model takes into account aspects of both coordination and interdependence of links in the supply chain and material flow. By conducting experiments on the supply chain system, recommendations were developed, which radically changed the nature of reverse logistics in the analyzed complex system.

Manufacturing a variety of final products in small (short) production series – requires the production systems to be flexible and to adapt almost instantly to the quickly changing customer requirements. Dynamics of changes and no predictability of system’s state in time t+1 lead to increase of the operational costs. It particularly affects those companies which are producing goods using make – to – order method in short series. This article describes research around a product for which 3 production technologies exist. The examined flow stream variants take into account a resources load with the tasks resulting from clients orders placed within Δt time. The goal of this article is to establish the parameters being the main determinants of production structure fluctuations.

The article presents issue of survival of simulated supply chains depends on the complexity of this chain. Authors analyzed the supply chain with mechanism of coordination of actions. In this article, authors decided to compare three supply chain on a different levels of complexity. For each of this supply chain the simulation model was built, and then the analysis of survival was made. In every model authors analyzed the decision part and transportation part. The first model is the basic simulation model with using the Electronic Bulletin Board, in which one contractor was considered. In second model authors extended the numbers of entities (contractors) in analyzed supply chain to four. In third model the transportation part was extended to be more complexity – different contractors can realized the transportation tasks. For each case authors focus on aspects of durability of supply chain as non-renewable systems.

The article presents issue of survival of simulated supply chains. Authors focus on aspects of durability of supply chain as non-renewable systems. In order to study a survival of objects in supply chain, the simulation model was built. This model includes coordination aspects. By carrying out experiments for a hypothetical supply chain system, the cohort table was developed. Based on experiments was defined: (1) the assessment of the probability of termination of cooperation in the defined interval of time, (2) the estimated function of the simulated objects and (3) the assessment of the hazard function.

A complex system, as is the supply chain, should be characterized by durability, denoting the ability to resist rapid change and the ability to survive. It was hypothesized: if a complex system survives one month, with a quantity of 2 Business Relations it is to be presumed that the system was built relatively strong and durable. The paper presents results of the simulation of the Supply Chains with the mechanism of coordination of actions as well as the results of the survival analysis of the simulated objects, with appropriate comments.

W systemach złożonych można wyróżnić dwa zachowania sprzeczne: konkurencję (rywalizację) i kooperację (współdziałanie).

Modern logistics platform paradigm positively effects development of enterprises. Over time several types of logistics platforms have developed. One of them is supply chain logistics platform, which is essential to reduce the overall cost of logistic activities between supply chain partners, to improve the overall efficiency of logistics and to integrate social resources. Superficially said, it is a general information exchange platform, which applies computer, internet and communication system, and other modern information technology [1]. With the purpose of integrating social resources, it reduces the threshold of the logistics informatization and provides all kinds of accurate, timely, shared information for each participant in logistics activities [2]. Logistics platforms represent a modern approach aimed towards fostering and facilitating logistics activities and business exchange with associated flows in a specific geographic area. We examined whether stakeholders of logistics system in various types of organizations in Slovenia and Poland understand information communication system and joint interactive portal as parts of supply chain’s logistics platform. With a case study, we demonstrated that implementation of common information solution is a step on a way to contemporary and comprehensive logistics platform. Additionally, common information solution should not be simply equated with the concept of supply chain’s logistics platform. Given the important role of IT solutions in the field of supply chains, this paper proposes a novel operation procedure for coordination of supply chain actions for validation and further research.
