Mario Eduardo Flores-Soto is a research associate at the Western Biomedical Research Center (CIBO) of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Mexico. His research focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disorders—particularly Parkinson's disease—with a special interest in neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, glial responses, and the endocannabinoid system. A key line of his research investigates the endocannabinoid system as a regulator of neuroinflammatory, oxidative, and neurodegenerative processes, as well as its potential neuroprotective role. In this context, he has studied the modulation of the cannabinoid receptor type 2 (CB2) and other endocannabinoid system components, evaluating their effects on inflammatory responses, antioxidant mechanisms, glial activation, and dopaminergic system integrity, as well as their involvement in neurodegeneration and L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia. His current research extends this perspective to the microbiota-gut-brain axis, exploring the relationship between intestinal barrier dysfunction, α-synuclein pathology, neuroinflammation, and ferroptosis in experimental models of Parkinson's disease. Overall, his work aims to identify novel neuroprotective and potentially disease-modifying strategies through modulation of the endocannabinoid system and microbiota-based interventions, with the goal of understanding and modulating the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the progression of Par
