Karol Rástočný graduated at the Department of Signalling and Communication Systems of the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Technical University of Transport and Communications, Žilina, Slovakia in 1982.  He defended his Ph.D.in the field of safety analysis in 1995.  Since 2008, he has been working as a professor at the Department of Control and Information Systems at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, University of Žilina. His professional orientation covers solving problems of functional and technical safety of safety related control systems, preferably oriented to railway domain.
