Osteoarthritis (OA) is a public health disease that causes decreased mobility and leads to poor quality of life. A person’s health-seeking behavior can influence their understanding of a disease, which in turn can alter its course. The objectives of this study were to measure the misconceptions about osteoarthritis and to identify the associated health-seeking behaviors. An online, self-administered, questionnaire-based study was conducted with 872 Arabic-speaking participants divided into three strata, group 1 comprising of patients with OA, group 2 participants with joint pain (without OA) and group 3 comprised of general population. Multivariate logistic regression analysis found that seeking care from general practitioners [3.29 (1.19, 9.16)], taking advice from friends [2.83 (1.08, 7.42)], seeking care from chiropractors [3.67 (1.02, 13.60)] and podiatrist [4.64 (1.31, 16.51)] were significantly associated with misconceptions, whereas, the odds were lower for those using social media [0.16 (0.06, 0.46)] and expert websites [0.63 (0.40, 0.99)]. The findings of this study imply that the level of misconceptions is high amongst all three strata.. Expert websites and social media have a positive effect on the management of osteoarthritis. However, general practitioners and allied health workers should regularly update their knowledge using refresher courses.

Objectives: Acne scarring occurs from skin damage following acne healing. Treatments such as chemical peels, dermabrasion, and laser therapy can effectively enhance scars’ appearance but could be expensive. This study aimed to reflect participants’ awareness of treatment options and their willingness to pay (WTP), evaluating their association with sociodemographics, severity, and quality of life (QoL). Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from June to July of 2023. Study participants were chosen using a non-probability sampling technique. Participants were aged 18 or older, had acne scarring, and resided in Riyadh. Data analysis was performed using RStudio, with P < 0.05 indicating statistical significance. Results: A total of 401 adult participants were included in the study. The prevalence of acne scarring among the participants was 63.4%. About 45.8% of the participants expressed a WTP of <1000 Saudi Riyals (SAR), while 42.2% were willing to pay 1000–6000 SAR. The most well-recognized acne scar management modalities were laser resurfacing (66.3%) and chemical peels (64.1%), while the least recognized were collagen/fat filler injections (23.9%) and radiofrequency microneedling (27.7%). Conclusion: The most recognized acne scar treatment modalities were laser resurfacing and chemical peels. Participants were willing to pay for reasons such as psychological impact, income levels, and awareness of treatment modalities. The findings could influence dermatologists to start awareness campaigns to debunk misconceptions about acne scar treatment modalities and their efficacy in improving QoL.

Objectives: This study aimed to translate and validate the Cough Severity Index (CSI) into Arabic (A‐CSI) and to evaluate its validity and reliability among patients with chronic cough. Methods: This cross‐sectional descriptive questionnaire‐based validation study was conducted at two tertiary hospitals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, between December 2023 and August 2024. The CSI was translated from English into Arabic using the forward‐backward method. Its reliability was assessed using Cronbach's alpha and test–retest reliability. Its construct validity was assessed using exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and its internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's alpha. Its discriminant validity was determined using the Mann–Whitney U test, and its reproducibility was evaluated using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC).Results: Data were collected from 100 participants, 50 with chronic cough and 50 healthy controls. The mean age was 41.56 ± 14.28 years in the chronic cough group and 35.48 ± 10.02 years in the healthy control group. The A‐CSI exhibited high reproducibility (ICC = 0.896) and excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.966). EFA identified three factors explaining 66.41% of the variance, with all items having communalities > 0.3. The A‐CSI exhibited significant discriminant validity between the chronic cough and healthy control groups (p < 0.001).Conclusion: The A‐CSI is a reliable and valid tool for assessing chronic cough in Arabic‐speaking patients, making it suitable for both clinical practice and research.Level of Evidence: Level 3.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to translate and validate the Voice Activity and Participation Profile (VAPP), a comprehensive tool for assessing the impact of voice disorders on daily life activities and social participation, into Arabic and to test its reliability among voice disorders patients in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia \looseness-1 Methods: A descriptive, questionnaire-based validation study was conducted at two university hospitals from December 2023 to September 2024. The VAPP was translated using forward and backward translation methods from English into Arabic. The questionnaire's reliability and internal consistency were assessed using Cronbach's alpha and test-retest reliability. To measure the construct validity, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted. Discriminant validity was assessed using the Mann-Whitney U test, and reproducibility was evaluated using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) Result: The study included 120 participants, of which 60 had voice complaints (VCG) and 60 were healthy HCG (HCG). The Arabic-VAPP (A-VAPP) demonstrated excellent reliability, with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.967 and ICC exceeding 0.979 (p < 0.001). Significantly higher scores were observed in the VCG compared to the HCG across job (p = 0.03), daily communication (p < 0.001), social communication (p = 0.01), and emotional impact (p < 0.001) domains. Receiver operating characteristic analysis further confirmed strong discriminative validity with an area under the curve of 0.960, sensitivity of 84%, and specificity of 100%. Conclusion: A-VAPP is a reliable and valid tool for assessing voice disorders in Arabic-speaking patients, making it suitable for both clinical practice and research.
Background: Parathyroid carcinoma is a rare and challenging malignancy, often confirmed by histopathological analysis. Due to its rarity, it can present in atypically. We present a case of parathyroid carcinoma with an unusual course of pulmonary metastasis emphasizing the complexities of its diagnosis and management. Case Description: A 38-year-old lady was referred to our department when her newborn was found to have hypoparathyroidism. Laboratory tests showed elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) and adjusted calcium levels. Imaging studies suggested the presence of parathyroid tumors, and histopathology confirmed parathyroid carcinoma. Immunohistochemistry was positive for GATA3 in the tumor cells, and next generation sequencing revealed CDC73 mutation, MYC rearrangement, ASXL1 mutation, and a tumor mutational burden (TMB) of 11 Muts/Mb. Despite surgical intervention and initial remission, she developed pulmonary metastasis, which was surgically addressed. She is currently under immunotherapy with six cycles of pembrolizumab due to recurrence. Conclusions: This case highlights the importance of prolonged surveillance and imaging for parathyroid carcinoma due to recurrence and metastasis. Aggressive resection of parathyroid carcinoma and metastasis are important to decrease mortality. This case also highlights the importance of genetic factors, like CDC73 mutations, confirmed in this study.
