Mikel Izquierdo is a professor in the Department of Health Sciences at the Public University of Navarra. His research primarily focuses on the effects of strength and power training across various sports disciplines, examining the impact of this training throughout life and in the aging process, frailty, and populations with specific conditions such as diabetes and obesity, or cognitive and functional decline. Currently, he leads the research group "Physical Exercise, Health and Quality of Life EFIT" at the Navarra Biomedical Research Center (NAVARRABIOMED) and collaborates as a researcher with the CIBER on Frailty and Healthy Aging (CIBERFES) of the Carlos III Health Institute. He has served as a researcher in European projects, including the "Mid-Frail" project funded by the European Commission (Seventh Framework Program) and the DIABRAIL-LATAM project, also funded by the European Commission (H2020). Additionally, he coordinates the European project VIVIFRAIL (www.vivifrail.com) as a scientific director. Since 2018, Dr. Izquierdo has contributed as an external advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO) Healthy Aging Consortium, facilitating the implementation of physical exercise programs aimed at preventing frailty and falls globally.
