Biography

Víctor Quesada is an Associate Professor at the Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche (UMH), Spain. He completed his undergraduate studies in Biology at the Universidad de Alicante, Spain, in 1993, and received his Ph.D. at the UMH working in the isolation and characterization of salt-tolerant mutants in the plant model system Arabidopsis thaliana (1999). He moved then to the John Innes Centre (JIC) in Norwich, UK, with a post-doctoral fellowship from 2000 to 2003, to work in the study of the regulation of the FCA gene and its function in the promotion of flowering in Arabidopsis, at the laboratory of Dr. Caroline Dean. After finishing his post-doc at the JIC, he moved to the Bioengineering Institute of the UMH to work in leaf morphogenesis at the laboratory of Dr. José Luis Micol, until December 2008. He became an Assistant Professor (December 2003) and an Associate Professor in 2009 at the UMH. Since 2009, his research activity has been focused on the functional characterization of Arabidopsis nuclear genes involved in organellar gene expression, principally those encoding mitochondrial transcription termination factors (mTERFs) and organellar ribosomal proteins, to shed light on the understanding of their roles in plant growth, development and adaptation to abiotic stress. He is currently a guest editor and topic editor of the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, and a member of the editorial board of the journal Plants.
