Dr. Saija Kiljunen is a Principal Investigator at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki. She received her Master’s degree in Biotechnology in 1994 and completed her PhD studies in Biochemistry at the University of Turku in 2006. Her research mainly covers the genomic and biological characterization of bacteriophages, phage/host interactions, and bacteriophage therapy. She explores bacteriophages as a treatment option for antibiotic-resistant bacteria, focusing specifically on the features affecting the success of phage therapy and their underlying molecular mechanisms.
