Carlo Irace is Professor of Medical Biochemistry and member of the BioChem Lab at the Department of Pharmacy of the School of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Naples “Federico II”. He has consolidated knowledge in preclinical evaluations for drug discovery and development, as well as in targeted screening for bioactivity investigations and molecular biology. His large scientific output underscores a track record in the development of anticancer agents and the study of molecular mechanisms controlling the regulation of dynamic biological processes such as cell death/survival, proliferation, and differentiation. He is skilled in the setup and optimization of preclinical experimental models, both in vitro and in vivo, exploited in different pathophysiological conditions to reproduce human diseases. In this context, the achievement of new insights concerning the molecular regulation of iron homeostasis and its impact on several cellular processes is of relevance. In recent years, he has been engaged in a multidisciplinary project aimed at the preclinical development of new ruthenium-based anticancer candidate drugs. As member or head of different operating units, his research has been supported by many MIUR-PRIN, Campania region, University "Federico II", AIRC, and POR-FESR grants.
