Prof. Walter Kolch is the Director of Systems Biology Ireland at the School of Medicine, University College Dublin. He was a Professor of Molecular Cell Biology from 2000 to 2009 and Director of Sir Henry Wellcome Functional Genomics Facility from 2001 to 2009 at the University of Glasgow. He graduated with a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Vienna in Austria. A leading international proponent of precision medicine, he originally trained as a clinician, subsequently working in the pharmaceutical industry, research institutes, and academia. He has designed, developed, and coordinated innovative systems biology, systems medicine, and precision medicine programs of vision, scale, and impact with a track record of competitive grant funding of over two hundred million. He serves on several editorial boards and scientific advisory boards and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and a Member of the Royal Irish Academy. In 2022, he received the prestigious Science Foundation Ireland Mentorship Award.
