Social intervention with children with disabilities and their families should be understood through the principles of family‐centred practice. In Spain, early intervention is understood as interventions aimed at children from 0 to 6 years old and their families. Professionals carry out the reception, assessment and intervention. This study aims to analyse the relationship between mental and physical health, caregivers' levels of anxiety and depression and the child's development during the fostering and assessment phase. The sample is made up of 135 families using child development centres in the Balearic Islands. Four questionnaires were completed: Health‐Related Quality of Life SF‐12, Anxiety and Depression Scale, Child Behaviour Checklist (CBCL 1½–5) and socio‐demographic questionnaire. The results show that parents of children with disabilities have higher levels of mental health impairment than physical health impairment. They also score higher on anxiety than on depression. It is worth noting that professional discipline is a variable to be taken into account in relation to parents' perception of their child's developmental improvement. In addition, the association between the developmental subscales, where the more the child is affected, the more the parents' mental health is affected. The same pattern occurs with caregivers' levels of anxiety and depression. In short, we propose a reflection on the application of family‐centred practices during interventions, understanding the lack of professional training as a predictor of the quality of early intervention.

Suicide has become one of the leading causes of mortality among the adolescent population. This worrisome fact demands an exhaustive analysis of this social phenomenon’s reality. Objective: This paper aims to carry out a systematic review of the existing scientific literature in recent years on suicide among minors and adolescents. Method: To achieve this purpose, central databases, WoS, Scopus, and Dialnet, were analyzed, obtaining 34 articles. Results: The results are structured into three main categories. (1) Risk factors: psychological and mental health factors, family and context factors, and, finally, school factors. (2) Prevention: School as prevention, emotional education programs, and tools to deal with this situation. And, finally, the third block, (3) family experiences in the face of suicidal behavior. Conclusions: The studies reviewed highlight the enormous complexity of this problem and show a worrying situation regarding suicide, considering multifactorial aspects such as depression, psychosocial issues, and mood disorders, as well as causes related to the school environment, such as bullying and lack of connection with school. In addition, they denote the importance of family factors in this aspect. Finally, the results highlight the importance of prevention and early detection, underlining the need to develop concrete actions to alleviate this growing situation among adolescents.

Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) may be defined as the set of interventions for children from 0 to 6 years of age with disabilities or developmental disorders, their families, and the environment. Understanding the family as an active agent during the intervention, the aim of this study was to analyse the relationship between Family Quality of Life (FQoL) and family empowerment of parents with children with disabilities or developmental disorders who are users of ECI services. It also aimed to clarify the impact of family characteristics on FQoL and parental empowerment. The sample consisted of 322 parents or legal guardians from the Balearic Islands (Spain) users of ECI services, who responded to sociodemographic questions, the Family Quality of Life Scale for families with children with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities under 18 years of age (CdVF-ER) and Family Empowerment Scale (FES). Descriptive, differential, and correlational analyses were performed. The results obtained show medium-high levels of empowerment and FQoL, as well as differences in FQoL and family empowerment depending on family characteristics. Highlighting the scarcity of previous research, this study shows a positive and significant link between the level of family empowerment and FQoL.

Children with disabilities and their families have the right to access Early Childhood Intervention (ECI). Family members should act as active agents of the intervention. In this sense, service professionals should offer support and intervention to improve family well-being and child development. We analyzed the experiences of parents of children with disabilities users of ECI services and the professional coordinators in the Balearic Islands (Spain) from a phenomenological-hermeneutic approach. Data collection was through semi-structured interviews and focus groups. A total of 5 coordinators and 30 family members participated in the study. The results indicate five categories: making ECI visible, reception phase, family well-being, intervention, and current barriers. The findings project the need to make ECI visible in policies and administrations, as well as plans to raise social awareness of child disability. Protocols must be found to facilitate access to services for children and families. Implications for the improvement of ECI are proposed.
