We report on the synthesis of large single crystals of a new FeSe layer superconductor Cs(0.8)(FeSe(0.98))(2). X-ray powder diffraction, neutron powder diffraction and magnetization measurements have been used to compare the crystal structure and the magnetic properties of Cs(0.8)(FeSe(0.98))(2) with those of the recently discovered potassium intercalated system K(x)Fe(2)Se(2). The new compound, Cs(0.8)(FeSe(0.98))(2), shows a slightly lower superconducting transition temperature (T(c) = 27.4 K) in comparison to 29.5 in (K(0.8)(FeSe(0.98))(2)). The volume of the crystal unit cell increases by replacing K by Cs-the c parameter grows from 14.1353(13) to 15.2846(11) Å. For the alkali metal intercalated layered compounds known so far, (K(0.8)Fe(2)Se(2) and Cs(0.8)(FeSe(0.98))(2)), the T(c) dependence on the anion height (distance between Fe layers and Se layers) was found to be analogous to those reported for As-containing Fe superconductors and Fe(Se(1 - x)Ch(x)), where Ch = Te, S.

We present a detailed study on the magnetic order in the undoped mother compound LaFeAsO of the recently discovered Fe-based superconductor LaFeAsO1−xFx. In particular, we present local probe measurements of the magnetic properties of LaFeAsO by means of Fe57 Mössbauer spectroscopy and muon-spin relaxation in zero external field along with magnetization and resistivity studies. These experiments prove a commensurate static magnetic order with a strongly reduced ordered moment of 0.25(5)μB at the iron site below TN=138  K, well separated from a structural phase transition at TS=156  K. The temperature dependence of the sublattice magnetization is determined and compared to theory. Using a four-band spin density wave model both, the size of the order parameter and the quick saturation below TN are reproduced.

Topological materials ranging from topological insulators to Weyl and Dirac semimetals form one of the most exciting current fields in condensed-matter research. Many half-Heusler compounds, RPtBi (R = rare earth), have been theoretically predicted to be topological semimetals. Among various topological attributes envisaged in RPtBi, topological surface states, chiral anomaly, and planar Hall effect have been observed experimentally. Here, we report an unusual intrinsic anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in the antiferromagnetic Heusler Weyl semimetal compounds GdPtBi and NdPtBi that is observed over a wide temperature range. In particular, GdPtBi exhibits an anomalous Hall conductivity of up to 60 Ω−1⋅cm−1 and an anomalous Hall angle as large as 23%. Muon spin-resonance (μSR) studies of GdPtBi indicate a sharp antiferromagnetic transition (TN) at 9 K without any noticeable magnetic correlations above TN. Our studies indicate that Weyl points in these half-Heuslers are induced by a magnetic field via exchange splitting of the electronic bands at or near the Fermi energy, which is the source of the chiral anomaly and the AHE. Significance GdPtBi and NdPtBi belong to the Heusler family of compounds and are conventional antiferromagnets below 9 and 2.1 K, respectively. We present evidence for magnetic-field–induced Weyl physics in these compounds, namely, a chiral anomaly (negative magnetoresistance) and an anomalous Hall effect (AHE) with a large anomalous Hall angle over a wide range of temperature. The AHE and chiral anomaly have a similar temperature dependence, indicating their common origin. These studies plus band structure calculations reveal that GdPtBi and NdPtBi develop Weyl points in the presence of an external magnetic field that arises from an exchange field. Our observations open the path to the realization of the quantum AHE in antiferromagnetic Heusler thin films.

We report the magnetic and superconducting properties of locally noncentrosymmetric SrPtAs obtained by muon-spin-rotation/relaxation (μSR) measurements. Zero-field μSR reveals the occurrence of small spontaneous static magnetic fields with the onset of superconductivity. This finding suggests that the superconducting state of SrPtAs breaks time-reversal symmetry. The superfluid density as determined by transverse field μSR is nearly flat approaching T=0 K proving the absence of extended nodes in the gap function. By symmetry, several superconducting states supporting time-reversal-symmetry breaking in SrPtAs are allowed. Out of these, a dominantly d+id (chiral d-wave) order parameter is most consistent with our experimental data.
