The overexploitation of non-renewable fossil resources has led to dangerous warming of our planet due to greenhouse gas emissions. The main reason for this problem is the increase in global energy demand. The rising prices of oil and gas have pushed governments around the world to turn to renewable energy, especially solar and wind power. For this reason, the present paper aimed to focus on photovoltaic and wind energy systems. However, exploitation of these two sources individually is not always easy because of their intermittent and irregular characters. Therefore, the obvious solution is the hybridisation of these two sources, which, when used alongside other systems such as batteries, increases the reliability, availability, and efficiency of these renewable sources. The main objective of this paper is to give an overview of different configurations of hybrid solar and wind energy conversion systems. First, the behaviour of each system, as well as their mathematical models, characteristics, and existing topologies, is presented. Then, the control strategies, optimal configurations, and sizing techniques, as well as different energy management strategies, of these hybrid PV–wind systems are presented.

In this note, we clarify the statement given in the above paper, claiming that the condition for state feedback stabilisation tends to necessity. Actually, it is possible to find examples for which the above-mentioned condition introduces a very weak conservatism and hence is not necessary. The source of the conservatism has been identified. Furthermore, we also realized that the condition could be substantially improved in terms of computation time. Therefore both the analysis and synthesis conditions are improved.

This paper focuses on Kalman–Yakubovich–Popov lemma for multidimensional systems described by Roesser model that possibly includes both continuous and discrete dynamics. It is shown that, similarly to the standard 1-D case, this lemma can be studied through the lens of S-procedure. Furthermore, by virtue of this lemma, we will examine robust stability, bounded and positive realness of multidimensional systems.

This research work presents an H ∞ controller based on a Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) fuzzy model for a two-degrees-of-freedom (2-DOF) one-quarter-vehicle semi-active suspension with a magnetorheological damper where the actuator dynamics are included in the control synthesis. These dynamics enclose nonlinear damper phenomena, avoided in many other studies, and that can improve the suspension system by means of a more accurate model. The objective is to obtain a semi-active suspension that considerably improves the passive suspension efficiency based on some frequency domain performance criteria. The advantage of having the T–S system as a reference is that each piecewise linear system can be exposed to the well-known control theory. Besides, the proposed solution is compared with the recent reported work to highlight its advantages. A case of study is included and simulation work supports the results. The methodology applied herein can be extended to a half-vehicle model, and to the four wheels to have a global chassis control in order to maximise passenger comfort and vehicle stability.

This note aims at broadening the panel of existing conditions for structural stability of 2D Roesser models. The models can be discrete, continuous, or mixed discrete/continuous. The conditions are necessary and sufficient. They are either expressed in terms of LMI (linear matrix inequalities) or based on direct tests on eigenvalues of constant matrices. The effectiveness of these tests is highlighted.
