Dr. Haiyan Sally Xie is a full professor at Illinois State University. She graduated from the University of Florida with a Ph.D. degree in design, construction, and planning. She has more than 24 years of teaching and research experience. From August 2019 to August 2020, she took a sabbatical leave and worked in the Construction Information Technology Laboratory of the Division of Civil Engineering at the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge, on AI-optimized construction research. She has collaborated with over 50 co-authors on 45 peer-reviewed journal manuscripts, 55 peer-reviewed conference proceedings, and 10 textbooks. Dr. Xie’s primary research area is computing and information technologies for the architecture, engineering, construction, and facilities management industries (AEC/FM). This area is innovative and critical because it can deliver problem solutions that are different, unique, and cost-effective with improved productivity in the industries. Her specific expertise is in the following four areas: (1) intelligent automation of construction tasks; (2) infrastructure conditioning assessment, modeling, sensing, and management; (3) data analysis, classification, retrieval, and processing; and (4) intelligent building systems and transportation. Dr. Xie received the ISU Outstanding Researcher Award in 2022 and the International Outstanding Research Award of the Associated Schools of Construction in 2019.
