From 1993 to 2002 he worked with industrial companies and universities in the field of robotics, automation, environmental monitoring, mechatronics. Since 2002 he has a forward contract as Senior Technologist at the INGV, and worked first at INGV-PA, where he was responsible of the electronic lab and R&D unit (development of electronic measuring systems in the field of geochemical surveillance for the volcanic and seismic risk) until 2017, and then at INGV_OE. His research interests includes development of measuring instruments, environment monitoring, soil degassing, plume gases, geochemical surveillance of volcanoes and seismic areas, automatic data acquisition and elaboration. He is co-PI in a PNRA project on Antarctica's volcanoes, and co-responsible in several international projects to develop geochemical networks all over the world. His scientific production consists of more than 90 papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings books, in the field of system engineering, environment, volcanology and geochemistry. He is designed as inventor in two international patents in the field of Fuzzy and Neuro Fuzzy control systems. He has been supervisor of several undergraduate, graduate and PhD students. Since early 80’s he is member of CNSAS (Speleological and Alpine Italian National Rescue), and he is particularly expert in the field of volcanic cave exploration and study, with dozens of publications in this field.
