The article concerns the issue of retrofitting (i.e., the conversion of worn-out diesel buses into electric buses). As this solution is often cheaper than purchasing new electric buses, it can be attractive for low-population areas with a weaker economic infrastructure. The article aims to present an original method for rapidly selecting components for the electric traction system, such as the electric motor, inverter, and transmission systems, combined with a battery installed in a drawer. The battery swapping solution is dedicated to regions with underdeveloped power infrastructure that does not allow for fast charging of bus batteries using pantographs. A mathematical model in the form of a polynomial was developed to estimate the energy losses for a given route. This model consists of a bus physics model, an energy loss model in the propulsion system, and a battery model. The weight coefficients of the polynomials were determined based on an analytical analysis of the model dependencies. The obtained models were reduced using the Lasso regularization method in linear regression. The input data for the model includes route characteristics (or driving cycle) and technical characteristics of the traction system components. The model output provides a detailed profile of electric energy consumption and peak values of the drive system characteristics (e.g., maximum torque of the motor) which must not be exceeded. Implemented as computer software, the model—combined with a database of motors, inverters, drive transmission systems, and batteries—allows for a quick calculation of the possibilities of applying a selected configuration to cover a given route. The approach proposed in the article enables the rapid composition of electric traction devices based on required driving conditions during the initial vehicle prototyping stage. At the same time, it allows the state of the bus battery to be monitored and estimates the remaining range during the operation of upgraded buses.

The article presents an innovative concept of applying graph databases in transport information systems. The model of a graph database has been presented together with implementation of data structures and search operations in a graph. The transformation concept of relational model to a graph data model has been developed. The schema of graph database has been proposed for public transport information system purposes. The realization methods have been illustrated by the use of search function based on the Cypher query language.

This study investigates the severity of injuries sustained by over seven million participants involved in road traffic incidents in Poland between 2015 and 2024, with a view to supporting sustainable mobility and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Road safety is a crucial dimension of sustainable development, directly linked to public health, urban liveability, and the socio-economic costs of transportation systems. Using a harmonised participant-level dataset, this research identifies key demographic, behavioural, and environmental factors associated with injury outcomes. A novel five-level injury severity variable was developed by integrating inconsistent records on fatalities and injuries. Descriptive analyses revealed clear seasonal and weekly patterns, as well as substantial differences by participant type and driving licence status. Pedestrians and passengers faced the highest risk, with fatality rates more than five times higher than those of drivers. An XGBoost classifier was trained to predict injury severity, and SHAP analysis was applied to interpret the model’s outputs at the feature level. Participant role emerged as the most important predictor, followed by driving licence status, vehicle type, lighting conditions, and road geometry. These findings provide actionable insights for sustainable road safety interventions, including stronger protection for pedestrians and passengers, stricter enforcement against unlicensed driving, and infrastructural improvements such as better lighting and safer road design. By combining machine learning with interpretability tools, this study offers an analytical framework that can inform evidence-based policies aimed at reducing crash-related harm and advancing sustainable transport development.

The article discusses the issue of how potential users perceive automated and autonomous vehicle (AV) technology, emphasizing that its sophistication and reliability are crucial for the safety of driving vehicles with a level of automation starting from the third degree. Safety plays a significant role in determining public acceptance of autonomous vehicles. Without the acceptance of potential users and their willingness to use smart electric vehicles, it is challenging to talk about the rapid implementation of autonomous vehicles, despite their undeniable benefits. The article presents an analysis of survey results regarding public opinion in Poland on this matter. The survey utilized various methods, including CAWI surveys, Focus Group Interviews (FGI), and Individual In-depth Interviews (IDI). The CAWI survey involved 1067 respondents in Poland, with a 95% confidence level and a maximum margin of error of 3%, representing a representative sample of the Polish population aged 16 and above. The article examines issues that illustrate respondents’ acceptance levels concerning perceived security and trust in AVs. The obtained results are compared with opinions from surveys conducted in other countries. Additionally, the article attempts to identify reasons for the low assessment of the technologies among respondents and proposes measures to boost confidence in automated and autonomous vehicles.

Traffic signal priority issues have been a research subject for several decades in Poland and worldwide. Traffic control algorithms have evolved considerably during this period and have become increasingly advanced. Most of them operate within coordinated street sequences, which adds to their complexity. Tramway priority affects traffic conditions for other road users, so many aspects must be taken into account when choosing a priority solution. Typically, one of the main criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of priority is reducing travel time for the priority vehicle while ensuring that the travel times of other traffic participants through the intersection are maintained or slightly deteriorated. However, the energy aspects are often overlooked. This publication aims to investigate how local priority for tramways in traffic signals of coordinated streets affects energy consumption for tramway traction needs. The study was conducted using a microscopic modeling method with PTV Vissim software (ver. 2021). The models were built for coordinated sequences with different levels of priority. Real traffic control algorithms with priority were implemented into the model on the sequence of Marymoncka Street and Grochowska Street in Warsaw. Then, by introducing changes to the parameters of the algorithms, their effect on traffic characteristics, including estimated power consumption, was studied. The results obtained from the computer simulation were statistically processed using R software (ver. 4.3.2). The analysis results prove the effectiveness of tramway priority operation, show its impact on electricity consumption, and allow us to determine the limits of its effective application. Thus, they complement the knowledge of the impact of tramway priority on traffic. The research results also have practical value, as they help us to make rational decisions in the process of designing traffic control algorithms at intersections with a multi-criteria approach.
