Introduction: In public health, machine learning algorithms have been used to predict or diagnose chronic epidemiological disorders such as diabetes mellitus, which has reached epidemic proportions due to its widespread occurrence around the world. Diabetes is just one of several diseases for which machine learning techniques can be used in the diagnosis, prognosis, and assessment procedures. Methodology: In this paper, we propose a new approach for boosting the classification of diabetes based on a new metaheuristic optimization algorithm. The proposed approach proposes a new feature selection algorithm based on a dynamic Al-Biruni earth radius and dipper-throated optimization algorithm (DBERDTO). The selected features are then classified using a random forest classifier with its parameters optimized using the proposed DBERDTO. Results: The proposed methodology is evaluated and compared with recent optimization methods and machine learning models to prove its efficiency and superiority. The overall accuracy of diabetes classification achieved by the proposed approach is 98.6%. On the other hand, statistical tests have been conducted to assess the significance and the statistical difference of the proposed approach based on the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. Conclusions: The results of these tests confirmed the superiority of the proposed approach compared to the other classification and optimization methods.

Air pollution is a growing concern due to severe threats to public health and the environment. The need for reliable air quality monitoring solutions has never been more critical. This research paper introduces an innovative approach to addressing this challenge by deploying a low-cost Internet of Things (IoT) air monitoring station and providing a blockchain technology solution to enhance environmental data transparency, reliability, and accessibility. Our paper adopts a concept of merging IoT and blockchain technologies and collecting some parameters that help to assess air quality by using three sensors, DHT11, MQ7, and MQ135, to collect temperature, humidity, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide parameters, respectively, to measure the gases and thus indicate the air quality within the surrounding area. Collecting and sharing these types of valuable data will be very important for various stakeholders, such as governmental bodies, researchers, and the public. This approach is consistent with the principles of sustainable development, facilitating informed decision-making and promoting eco-friendly policies. This research explores the technical architecture of the IoT air monitoring stations, offering a promising solution for addressing air pollution concerns while promoting sustainable development goals. The proposed system is a model for leveraging emerging technologies to advance environmental monitoring and create smarter, livable cities. This approach aligns with the principles of sustainable development and eco-friendly initiatives. This research offers a promising model for enhancing environmental monitoring efforts and advancing the creation of smarter, more sustainable urban environments. The proposed IoT, cloud platform and blockchain-based system not only addresses pressing air pollution challenges but also sets a benchmark for leveraging emerging technologies in environmental science.

As engineering technology advances and the number of complex engineering problems increases, there is a growing need to expand the abundance of swarm intelligence algorithms and enhance their performance. It is crucial to develop, assess, and hybridize new powerful algorithms that can be used to deal with optimization issues in different fields. This paper proposes a novel nature-inspired algorithm, namely the Groupers and Moray Eels (GME) optimization algorithm, for solving various optimization problems. GME mimics the associative hunting between groupers and moray eels. Many species, including chimpanzees and lions, have shown cooperation during hunting. Cooperative hunting among animals of different species, which is called associative hunting, is extremely rare. Groupers and moray eels have complementary hunting approaches. Cooperation is thus mutually beneficial because it increases the likelihood of both species successfully capturing prey. The two predators have complementary hunting methods when they work together, and an associated hunt creates a multi-predator attack that is difficult to evade. This example of hunting differs from that of groups of animals of the same species due to the high level of coordination among the two species. GME consists of four phases: primary search, pair association, encircling or extended search, and attacking and catching. The behavior characteristics are mathematically represented to allow for an adequate balance between GME exploitation and exploration. Experimental results indicate that the GME outperforms competing algorithms in terms of accuracy, execution time, convergence rate, and the ability to locate all or the majority of local or global optima.

Huge amounts of e-waste is generated yearly. It contains valuable metals such as copper aluminum and nickel, and precious metals such as gold, silver palladium and indium. However, it has serious hazards impacts on health and environment. E-waste management becomes essential to recover the valuable and precious metals, and protect health and environment. Egypt is a significant market for electric and electronic products that ends as e-waste and in the top of African countries in e-waste generation. The amount of EEE put on Egyptian market is 1069 kt with increasing rate of 10.44%; while the generated e-waste is 586 kt in with increasing rate of 5.71%. The increase in EEE put on the market is almost 3.6 times the increase in population, while the increase e-waste generated is almost double the increase in population. In average, the e-waste generated is almost 58.7 % of the amount of EEE put on the market. The generated e-waste per capita, is 5.84 kg/capita at increasing rate of 2.66%. The e-waste generated in Egypt is about 20.1% that of the African continent, while the population in Egypt is about 8.6% of Africa. In fact, Egypt has no serious national programs and regulations to handle e-waste properly, and e-waste activities are dominated and controlled by garbage traders and waste collectors
