Daria joined the biochemistry department of the biology faculty at Saint-Petersburg University in 1993. In 2000, Daria graduated university with a Master of Science degree. Daria got a PhD degree in 2005, the subject of her work was «Studying the transcription factor TRF2 in Drosophila melanogaster». Daria participates in the Program of presidium (RAS) “Molecular and cellular biology” (from 2008 till now); in the Program of RAS “Fundamental science – to medicine” (2007 - 2010); in grants of RFBR: 98-04-49057-а, 99-04-48774-а, 01-04-48660-а, 02-04-48567-а, 03-04-48502; US Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF), Award #RB1-2349-MO-0. She had a grant from «Russian science support foundation» in 2007, and two times had a Grant of president of Russia for young Russian scientists MK-4603.2007.4 and MK-3564.2009.4. She is a winner of the Grand Prize for Best Publications in the Journals of RAS of the International Academic Publishing Company “Nauka/Iterperiodika” in 2008. Daria Kopytova is a specialist in a field of gene regulation. She has discovered a complex responsible for the nuclear export of mRNA. At the present time, she studies mechanisms that connect transcription and mRNA export.
