Low-light image enhancement aims to improve the visual quality of images captured under poor illumination and has caught much attention these years. However, existing low-light enhancement methods encounter many problems, e.g., they may not be robust to diverse low-light conditions or have to sacrifice computational efficiency for enhancement performance, which hinder their practical applications. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a novel enhancement method, called Pixel-Wise Gamma Correction Mapping (PWGCM), which combines our innovative pixel-wise Gamma Correction (GC) and deep learning. Compared with conventional GC, our pixel-wise GC is characterized by a set of gamma correction maps, which have the same size as the input image and are taken to replace the single global GC parameter of conventional GC. These gamma correction maps are generated from the low-light image input by a lightweight convolutional neural network at low computational cost. New no-reference loss functions are provided to train the network, ensuring reliable unsupervised learning. Furthermore, our PWGCM is enhanced by an iterative strategy, under which the low-light input image is iteratively enhanced based on the generated gamma correction maps and can yield visually pleasant results. Extensive experiments are done to compare our PWGCM with several state-of-the-art methods in terms of visual quality, efficiency, and auxiliary effects on high-level tasks. The comparison results confirm the superiority of our PWGCM.
The research of robotic autonomous radioactivity detection or radioactive source search plays an important role in the monitoring and disposal of nuclear safety and biological safety. In this paper, a method for autonomously searching for radioactive sources through mobile robots was proposed. In the method, by using a partially observable Markov decision process (POMDP), the search of autonomous unknown radioactive sources was realized according to a series of radiation information measured by mobile robot. First, the factors affecting the accuracy of radiation measurement during the robot’s movement were analyzed. Based on these factors, the behavior set of POMDP was designed. Secondly, the parameters of the radioactive source were estimated in the Bayesian framework. In addition, through the reward strategy, autonomous navigation of the robot to the position of the radiation source was achieved. The search algorithm was simulated and tested, and the TurtleBot robot platform was used to conduct a real search experiment on the radio source Cs-137 with an activity of 37 MBq indoors. The experimental results showed the effectiveness of the method. Additionally, from the experiments, it could been seen that the robot was affected by the linear velocity, angular velocity, positioning accuracy and the number of measurements in the process of autonomous search for the radioactive source. The proposed mobile robot autonomous search method can be applied to the search for lost radioactive sources, as well as for the leakage of substances (nuclear or chemical) in nuclear power plants and chemical plants.
Solar panels may suffer from faults, which could yield high temperature and significantly degrade their power generation. To detect faults of solar panels in large photovoltaic plants, drones with infrared cameras have been implemented. Drones may capture a huge number of infrared images. It is not realistic to manually analyze such a huge number of infrared images. To solve this problem, we develop a Deep Edge-Based Fault Detection (DEBFD) method, which applies convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for edge detection and object detection according to the captured infrared images. Particularly, a machine learning-based contour filter is designed to eliminate incorrect background contours. Then faults of solar panels are detected. Based on these fault detection results, solar panels can be classified into two classes, i.e., normal and faulty ones (i.e., macro ones). We collected 2060 images in multiple scenes and achieved a high macro F1 score. Our method achieved a frame rate of 28 fps over infrared images of solar panels on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti GPU.

Defect detection of a workpiece surface is a basic and essential task in the production of products. Although significant progress has been made in workpiece surface defect detection, traditional methods still find it difficult to detect small defects efficiently. To deal with this problem, we propose an efficient small defect detection network with a novel parallel convolution module, serial convolution module and feature fusion module. First, a lightweight backbone network is used to extract the preliminary defect features. Second, the parallel convolution module and serial convolution module are used to obtain the abundant defect features. Then, the feature fusion module is used to fuse the shallow features with deep features, to enhance the features of the small defects. Finally, the obtained features are put into the corresponding detection head to get the final prediction results. The experimental results on a local cable dataset and a public printed circuit board dataset show that our method achieves a remarkable performance in detecting small defects and achieves a favorable trade-off between accuracy, speed and model size, which meets the requirements of industrial applications.

Over the past two decades, numerous research projects have concentrated on cognitive radio wireless sensor networks (CR-WSNs) and their benefits. To tackle the problem of energy and spectrum shortfall in CR-WSNs, this research proposes an underpinning decode-&-forward (DF) relaying technique. Using the suggested time-slot architecture (TSA), this technique harvests energy from a multi-antenna power beam (PB) and delivers source information to the target utilizing energy-constrained secondary source and relay nodes. The study considers three proposed relay selection schemes: enhanced hybrid partial relay selection (E-HPRS), conventional opportunistic relay selection (C-ORS), and leading opportunistic relay selection (L-ORS). We present evidence for the sustainability of the suggested methods by examining the outage probability (OP) and throughput (TPT) under multiple primary users (PUs). These systems leverage time switching (TS) receiver design to increase end-to-end performance while taking into account the maximum interference constraint and transceiver hardware inadequacies. In order to assess the efficacy of the proposed methods, we derive the exact and asymptotic closed-form equations for OP and TPT & develop an understanding to learn how they affect the overall performance all across the Rayleigh fading channel. The results show that OP of the L-ORS protocol is 16% better than C-ORS and 75% better than E-HPRS in terms of transmitting SNR. The OP of L-ORS is 30% better than C-ORS and 55% better than E-HPRS in terms of hardware inadequacies at the destination. The L-ORS technique outperforms C-ORS and E-HPRS in terms of TPT by 4% and 11%, respectively.
