Margarita Poza

Dr. Margarita Poza

Biography

Margarita Poza gained her first research experience in the field of microbiology with biotechnological applications. She presented her Doctoral Thesis in Microbiology in 2002, receiving an Extraordinary Award. In 2006, she joined the Microbiology Research Team coordinated by Germán Bou at the Biomedical Research Institute of A Coruña (INIBIC), where she currently works as a Senior Investigator, leading her own research lines: microbiome, wastewater-based epidemiology, and bacterial resistance and virulence. She has published more than 70 scientific articles indexed in JCR in prestigious international journals, generating an h-index of 36. From 2018, she has been an Associate Professor of Microbiology at the University of A Coruña (UDC). Of particular interest is her participation as Principal Investigator in five ISCIII national competitive projects consecutively from 2011 to date. During the COVID-19 epidemic, her team was able to adapt to hard circumstances and carry out a very interesting project on wastewater-based epidemiology. In the last few years, she has developed a research line on Microbiome and Health at INIBIC and UDC. She has demonstrated expertise in next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, metagenomics, transcriptomics, and genomics in the field of molecular resistance mechanisms of bacteria, wastewater-based epidemiology, and the microbiome.
