Hannah M. Buchanan-Smith earned her degree from the University of St Andrews before pursuing her PhD at the University of Reading under the supervision of Hilary Box. Following the completion of her doctorate, she returned to the University of St Andrews as a postdoctoral researcher. In 1989, she joined the University of Stirling, where she has since been contributing to her field.
