Dr. Petri Turhanen, Ph.D, is a staff scientist at the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) School of Pharmacy. He received his M.Sc. in organic chemistry at the University of Jyväskylä in 1997 and his Ph.D. in synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry at the University of Kuopio in 2003. Dr. Turhanen has authored more than 60 publications and conference presentations, serving as the main author in most of them; he also holds three patents and one patent application.
His scientific interests include synthetic organic chemistry, with a focus on green chemistry and the synthesis of different types of bisphosphonates (BPs) and their derivatives, as well as the synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) analogs. BPs are an important class of drugs used in many applications in the medicinal chemistry field, including in the treatment of bone disorders, such as Paget´s disease and osteoporosis; moreover, BPs can be used in many other applications, such as in the purification of metal contaminated water. Dr. Turhanen´s lab has the ability to synthesize many different kind of BPs, including etidronate, pamidronate, clodronate, alendronate, zoledronate, risedronate, tiludronate, incadronate, etc.
Dr. Turhanen also has experience in the purification of prepared ATP analogs and many other synthesis products using high performance counter current chromatography (HPCCC), an uncommon method in synthetic chemistry. See more: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Petri-Turhanen
