Fractured rocks are a type of complex media that widely exist in various projects including energy, hydraulic, and underground space engineering, whose permeability properties are a hotspot in current rock mechanics domain. Aiming at investigating the seepage characteristics of the fracture surfaces in different rock strata, uniaxial compressive test and permeability test were performed on single-fracture homogenous and heterogeneous rocks. Specifically, rock’s physical and mechanical parameters were measured in uniaxial tests while the initial width of the single fracture was determined through CT scanning. In combination with test results and the calculation model of the displacement of single-fracture heterogeneous rock under triaxial stress condition, the calculation formula of the permeability coefficient of single-fracture heterogeneous rock was derived. Results show that hydraulic pressure in the fracture can affect the permeability coefficient of the fractured rock. Hydraulic fracturing effect occurred with the increase of hydraulic pressure in the fracture, which then generates slight normal deformations of the rock masses on both two sides of the fracture surface, decreases the contact area in the fracture, and leads to the increases of both fracture width and permeability coefficient. For single-fracture rock, the lithological properties of the rock masses on both two sides of the fracture surface impose significant effects on the permeability coefficient. Under same hydraulic pressure and confining pressure, the permeability coefficient of single-fracture coarse sandstone is greatest, followed by that of single-fracture heterogeneous rock, and finally by single-fracture fine sandstone. Theoretical calculation results agree well with the test results, suggesting that the derived theoretical formula can adequately describe the variation tendencies of permeability coefficient with confining pressure and hydraulic pressure in the fracture.

Considering the structure effect of tunnel stability in western mining of China, three typical kinds of numerical model were respectively built as follows based on the strain softening constitutive model and linear elastic–perfectly plastic model for soft rock and interface: R–M, R–Cs–M and R–Cw–M. Calculation results revealed that the stress–strain relation and failure characteristics of the three models vary between each other. The combination model without interface or with a strong interface presented continuous failure, while weak interface exhibited ‘cut off’ effect. Thus, conceptual models of bi-material model and bi-body model were established. Then numerical experiments of tri-axial compression were carried out for the two models. The relationships between stress evolution, failure zone and deformation rate fluctuations as well as the displacement of interface were detailed analyzed. Results show that two breakaway points of deformation rate actually demonstrate the starting and penetration of the main rupture, respectively. It is distinguishable due to the large fluctuation. The bi-material model shows general continuous failure while bi-body model shows ‘V’ type shear zone in weak body and failure in strong body near the interface due to the interface effect. With the increasing of confining pressure, the ‘cut off’ effect of weak interface is not obvious. These conclusions lay the theoretical foundation for further development of constitutive model for soft rock–coal combination body.

This paper focuses on the reinforcement effect of full‐face anchorage in thick soft rock roadway. A 2D semimodel of full‐face anchorage in roadway with thick surrounding soft rock was proposed firstly by transforming the confinement effect of the excavation face in the longitudinal direction as the virtual internal support force at the circumferential surface. Then, based on the theory of elasticity, the theoretical model of the coupling effect between surrounding rock and anchoring system was established, and the analytical solutions of stress and displacement were obtained employing superposition principle. Finally, the theoretical solution was verified by numerical simulation, and the distribution laws of stress release‐anchor stock‐surrounding rock coupling were analyzed in detail considering stress release. Results demonstrated that the stress field of the surrounding rock diverse widely with different stress release coefficients. With the increasing of stress release coefficient, the radial stress of the surrounding rock decreases, while the tangential stress increases. The supporting role of the bolt is mainly reflected in improving the radial stress of the anchorage zone. However, it has little effect on the tangential stress. What is more, the anchoring effect is more significant to soft rock stress than hard rock. In addition, the prestress of rock bolt has a certain matching relation with the bolt parameters, the surrounding rock parameters, and the initial stress. This study laid a theoretical foundation for further analysis of the interaction between surrounding rock and bolt supporting in plastic zone.

Shaft linings in thick weakly cemented stratum have the disadvantages of large deformation and repeated damage after repair. Considering the typical geologic characteristics and the failure characteristics of shaft linings, we establish a multilayer automatic deformation monitoring system in this paper, and the monitoring system can realize the real‐time, continuous, and long‐term dynamic monitoring on shaft linings. Based on the concrete strength failure criterion under biaxial compression and the analytical solution for spatially axisymmetric problem of thick‐wall cylinders, the damage limit of the shaft lining in Xieqiao coal mine is obtained. Then, we choose three sections as the test area according to the typical damage forms of shaft linings to carry out the monitoring scheme on the auxiliary shaft in Xieqiao coal mine. The monitoring results show that the extreme value of the shaft lining deformation is 2.369 mm. And the shaft lining located in the border between the floor aquifer and the bedrock generates the most severe deformation, which is about 89.4% of the deformation limit. The shaft lining deformation increment fluctuates in certain range, which belongs to elastic deformation. Finally, we inverse the stress state according to the deformation value of the shaft lining, and the obtained additional stress is found to be lower than the ultimate compressive strength. Long‐term project practice confirms that the deformation monitoring results can reflect the real stress condition of the shaft lining and that the monitoring system can realize the real‐time dynamic evaluation for the status of the shaft lining.

For a pile foundation design, the value of proportional coefficient m to define the soil horizontal resist force is a significant parameter. However, different geological conditions and experimental environment have led to different m values. In this paper, an in situ test is firstly carried out on the horizontal bearing capacity of large-size precast square-piles. The piles deformation is then derived by using the optimization method from the measured data. Secondly a back analysis model is established to calculate the m value by using the simplex method, which reveals the evolution rule of the value of proportional coefficient m. Results show that the horizontal bearing characteristics of precast piles depend on the interaction force of piles and soils. The action mechanism of the soils around the piles is gradually developed with the increase in the concrete content. The horizontal critical load and the Eigenvalue of horizontal bearing capacity increased by 16.7% and 20%, respectively. It is also seen that the higher the content of the cement-soil around the piles and the longer the pile length, the bigger the m value obtained. The variation of the proportional coefficient m with the horizontal displacement of pile top is defined by three stages: rapid decaying stage, slow decaying stage, and balanced stage, respectively. The inverse analysis method on the proposed m value can accurately reflect the actual working state of piles and soils. In the depth of 3~18m in the west of Ji'nan, the range of m value is recommended as 4~6.58 MN·m-4. When Δ takes 12mm, the values of m are consistent with the result from the back analysis. In summary, the obtained m value can be effectively used to guide the design of enclosure structure in the super deep foundation pit in the Yellow River alluvial stratum.
