Dr. Johnson received a Doctoral degree in Physics-Photonics (2004) from Oklahoma State University based on research directed at the application of porphyrins in chemical detection. Since joining the Naval Research Laboratory in 2004, she has pursued a wide variety of research including distributed sensing, environmental monitoring, self-decontaminating materials, and natural products. She holds eight patents and has published more than 125 papers and reports on her work. Dr. Johnson received the 2013 Dr. Delores M. Etter Top Navy Scientists Engineers of the Year award in the category of Emergent Investigator as well as the 2018 NRL Edison Patent Award.
